Updates from School Librarian Mr. Cadney. 

The World Cup is currently in full swing and so many of the boys are following it avidly and have excellent football knowledge.  The Day has provided great articles to discuss and debate different aspects of the tournament, including political and ethical issues. 

Remember that 2026 is the National Year of Reading.  We’ll continue to support this throughout the year, and would love all our students to continue reading for pleasure as widely as possible over the summer break

This month we feature some  more of the varied new White Ribbon titles that are now available to borrow.  

Lordswood is proud to support this national campaign to support ending violence against women and girls. 

Woman, Life, Freedom  by Marjane Satrapi is a powerful and highly educational graphic novel that showcases the struggle of women in Iran as their human rights have been drastically eroded by the Islamic regime.  It focuses on demonstrations across Iran following the death in police custody of a 22 year old woman for not wearing her veil. 

The Man They Wanted Me to Be by Jared Yates Saxton  is the authors personal exploration of the toxic masculinity crisis. He draws on his own boyhood experiences to show how narrowly defined gender roles hurt men and women alike. 

The Pocket Guide to the Patriarchy by Maya Oppenheim is an impactful short book that highlights how patriarchal views and societies affect women across the world. 

Liliana’s Invincible Summer by Cristina Rivera Garza  is about a sister’s quest for justice after Liliana was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in Mexico in 1990.  Mexico has a longstanding history of violence and femicide.
