Literacy Week 20191st-5th July 2019
We started the week with a number of author visits. Matt Dickenson, enlightened the boys with the importance of experiences to help inspire writing and how you can build those experiences through reading. the boys listened attentively to his amazing journey.
Visit from Former Students!
The Year 10 students benefitted from hearing from our former students:
Raghav Manchandra (Chemical Engineer - Cambridge)
Milad Baburi (Doctor - Birmingham)
Arslaan Mahmood (Lawyer - Birmingham)
The questions that our boys asked about their journeys and experiences was intriguing. In particular what was really interesting is how they all spoke about the importance of debating and developing communication skills to be able to articulate and stand out in every stage of life. This really made me think about how important it is that we develop speaking and listening to ensure our boys can communicate effectively.
The visitors then had the difficult task of judging the science fair projects and following some outstanding presentations, they probed the students with questions and gave them advice on how to develop further. The boys listened with enthusiasm.
Another Author Visit!
In addition, we had Joanna Toye sharing her expertise with the Year 7s to develop their script writing skills, linked with Mortal Engines...
...and what better way to develop this than to act the scenes out, as they did on NO PEN Friday.
There was also lots of debating going on around the school - oracy is a really important part of literacy!
