Backpack Supplies Drive Summary

Our friends at Afghan American Church (AAC) are hosting a school supplies drive to bless the local Afghan community. This is an amazing opportunity to get involved in local missions as an individual, small group, and congregation! We are aiming to collect the completed supply sets at LGCC by Sunday, July 26.

LGCC is pledging to donate 100 sets of secondary school supplies.

We are organizing 2 options for those interested in participating:

• Option 1: Donate a Complete Supply Set
  I will purchase a complete set of school supplies (following the provided supply list), pack them, and bring them to the church. Please see the sign-up link, recommendation notes, and the supply list below.

• Option 2: Sponsor a Supply Set & Join the Packing Party
  I would like the church to purchase the school supplies for me. I will donate $15/set (or more, if I wish) to help cover the cost and will join the Packing Party on Friday, July 24, at 7:30pm to assemble the supply sets.
  Please also enter your attendee headcount on the sign up sheet below by 7/22 to help us plan for dinner.

    • Where: Fellowship Hall & Deck

    • What: Pack school supplies, fellowship, and have dinner together!

    • Register by 7/22 for dinner headcount on the speadsheet below

• Additional Donation (Optional)
  Any amount above $15 will help cover the cost of the backpacks and assist families in need.

• All monetary donations should be made in cash, or PayPal/Venmo to Hubert. LGCC will not be able to give tax-deductible receipts for donations towards this drive.

  • To pay for 100 better-quality bulk backpacks, to be purchased by Afghan American Church.

  • Please contact Hubert for financial donations.

  • Extra donations & supplies will be given to AAC to distribute for the Drive as needed.

• Help with the events (information below)

Recommendations for Option 1 groups:

• Figure out how many sets of supplies your group wants to put together.

• Cost: Assume $10-$15 for a set of supplies.

• Make a Target/Walmart trip to get all necessary supplies.

  • Note: We recommend buying most of these items from Walmart or Target during their back-to-school sales (Staples has comparable prices for some items), which should start mid to late July. For earbuds/headphones, the dollar store is your best option. If you're making a lot of supply sets, pencils and earbuds are cheapest bought in bulk through Amazon, but most items aren't the cheapest through Amazon.

• Suggest gathering your group to pack supply sets, and pray over / write notes for the kids receiving them!

• Put each complete set of school supplies in a paper or plastic bag, and label it as "Secondary."

• Bring completed supply sets to LGCC, Building 2 by Sunday, July 26.

Secondary SChool Supply List

• 1 binder 

• 4 notebooks (2 regular, 2 composition)

• 4 folders

• 1 set of notebook paper

• 1 pencil case

• 10 #2 pencils

• 2 black pens

• 2 blue pens

• 2 red pens

• 3 highlighters (different colors)

• 2 large pink erasers (1 package)

• 1 pencil sharpener

• 1 scotch tape

• 1 mini stapler

• 1 box of staples

• 1 set of earbuds/headphones

Main Event - August 1, 1-4pm

Join volunteers in Fremont (location TBA) to prepare backpacks, and add brochures and spiritual materials into the backpacks. Sign-up to help on the Back to School Event Form: LINK TBA
