What is the OPAC?
OPAC stands for Online Public Access Catalog. Before we had an online system for finding our books, we would need to search the 'card catalog.' Have you ever seen one of these...?
Libraries would use the card catalog system to organize the names of the items located in the collection. The items could be organized by subject or author. You would need to look through the drawers, find the item you want and then use the Call Number to find the book on the shelf. Seems like a lot of work, right? Luckily for us, the world wide web was invented! And, with that invention libraries began to automate their collections online.
Now, if you'd like to search the library for books, all you need to do is type in your terms and voilà!
