The Lynnhaven is a river and watershed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, known for its vibrant marine life and scenic waters. It flows through the Lynnhaven Inlet, which connects to the Chesapeake Bay, creating an ideal habitat for various fish species like speckled trout, red drum, and flounder, making it a popular fishing spot. The river is also central to the area's ecological health and restoration efforts, particularly for the oyster populations that filter the water and support biodiversity. Locals and visitors alike enjoy fishing, boating, kayaking, and other water activities on the Lynnhaven, especially with convenient access to the Chesapeake Bay and the broader Atlantic waters.
Big Thanks to the following business for their contributions of great prizes to this fishing community: The Aberdeen Barn ($30 Gift Certificate to all anglers in the paid division), Q-Master Billiards (Free pool for all entrants, youth as well, for up to 4 people - play as long as you like $40 Value), Cobia Killer (Swag and Goodies!) and Lee Fisher Sports. Make sure you show your appreciation to these incredible businesses, supporting your hobby & sport of fishing.
What are we after? The speckled trout, also known as spotted seatrout, is a prized catch among anglers along the Atlantic coast and in the Lynnhaven River. Recognizable by its sleek silver body, dark spots along its back, and vibrant yellow mouth, this fish is not only beautiful but also known for its spirited fight on the line. Speckled trout thrive in shallow coastal waters, especially near grassy beds, sandy flats, and estuaries, making the Lynnhaven’s ecosystem an ideal habitat. Aren't we lucky!
Known to be particularly active in cooler months, speckled trout are a favorite in late fall and winter tournaments. With careful handling, they can be released to maintain population health, ensuring that future generations of anglers can enjoy the thrill of reeling in these stunning fish.
