Londonderry High School Lancer Marching Band
8th grade Band Parents,
My name is Serge Beaulieu. I am the Director of Music for the school district as well as the Band Director at Londonderry High School. As course selection for the incoming 9th grade class is approaching, we conducted our annual visit to the 8th grade bands to talk about enrolling in the band class at the HS as well as participating in our amazing Lancer Marching Band. Here is some of the information we went over with them in this INFORMATION that was talked about when we visited, which will answer a lot of basic questions. I’m sure many of you are aware of the amazing opportunities this band has to offer, but if you’re not I’ve included some video links in the info packet as well as our impressive resume.
After reading the information, if you have any questions about your child's participation, please feel free to contact me.

Spring Concert Change
Hello Lancer Music Families. Thank you all for your feedback regarding the Winter Concert at Windham HS. Overall the experience was extremely positive. Now that we've gone through it once and thanks to your feedback, we believe we can improve the event next time. Looking ahead we have booked the Windham's auditorium for our annual spring concert on Friday May 16 (6pm-Chorus & Orchestra; 7:30pm-Band & Jazz). We apologize in advance if this change of date creates new conflicts for some of our students. Unfortunately, Windham's auditorium is frequently booked for various school and community events. However, in scheduling for next year we will book sooner so our concert dates don't change. FYI our upcoming March Concerts have not changed and will be held at the LHS Gym. Those dates can be found at https://www.lancermusic.org/calendarupdates

Good morning Lancer Families and Happy New Year. I hope you all had a great holiday season with families and friends. Just a gentle reminder that the following NYC BAND MEDICAL FORM and medications are due to the HS nurses by JANUARY 31. In case you missed the message sent out last month I've pasted that info below.
Also, with a big protocol change some parents have had a lot of questions. One of which is getting medications to the nurses that your child still needs between Jan 31 and Mar 15. We've been told that some pharmacies will print a new label affixed to a bottle or bag and then the supply can be put into that. (This is preferred). If not, when the parent delivers the meds, the school nurses can make a copy of the label from the original multidose pack and pull the supply from the multidose pack in the HS health office. This med like all other meds will still need an actual prescription consent.
Again, if you have any questions feel free to reach out to me or the school nurses Mrs. Cullen or Mrs. Dyche at 432-6941 EXT 2104 or 2009
12/16/24 - NEW MEDICATION PROTOCOLS FOR THE NYC BAND TRIP
Band Parent’s
A paper copy of the NYC Band Trip MEDICAL FORM was distributed in band classes today. Please ask your child for it and look it over. For those who have had a child that has traveled with the 8th grade trip to D.C. you’ll notice the forms and instructions look very similar. That is because district-wide we are aligning our protocols and procedures for overnight travel. The key highlights are:
ALL over the counter medications listed on form #1 will be carried by our 2 medical volunteers.
ANY other over-the counter medication NOT listed in Form #1 or any prescription medication that your child needs for the duration of the 3 day trip MUST be brought to the SCHOOL NURSES, in the original container and accompanied by form #2 before JANUARY 31.
Similar to school policies during the school day, students will not be allowed to self-medicate on this trip.
Our school nurses will organize all of the prescription medications into labeled envelopes that will be handed off to our 2 traveling nurses.
FYI - Our two traveling nurses for this year’s trip will be Stephanie Ackerson and Erin Wessling. Both have students in the band, are registered medical personnel, and have experience with being nurses on the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C..
Finally, you’ll notice that a similar form for D.C. was used to collect data about your child’s Parent contact info, emergency contact, Insurance information, physician’s information, existing medical conditions, past injuries, and allergy information. However, all of that information was collected earlier this year in FinalForms. I will print those e-cards off and hand them to the nurses so they can be added to the traveling medical book. If any of that information has changed please log on to FinalForms before January 31 and update (if you do update please let me know). If you need assistance with logging on please contact me.

End of Fall Marching Season Wrap-Up and looking ahead.
With our final fall marching band event in the books that concludes another FANTASTIC Fall Marching Band Season. This year has been filled with hard work, dedication, and unforgettable performances. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our talented students for their tremendous effort throughout the season. From our May Spring Training sessions to summer practices, Band Camp, fall practices, football games, and parades, each performance was a resounding success, captivating the admiration of hundreds, if not thousands, of spectators.
A Special Thank You
I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to ALL the parents, guardians, and grandparents who have played an essential role in the success of our band. Your support has been invaluable, whether it was fitting uniforms, serving snacks, preparing freeze pops, providing lunches at Band Camp, filling water jugs, loading trucks, hauling equipment to game fields, or chaperoning students.
There are so many names to mention that it would fill this entire page! However, I would like to especially recognize the leadership of our Friends of Music Board: Melissa Vaccaro-President, Dave Blomgren-VP, Tara Parasi-Secretary, Holly Maki-Treasurer, John Rolfe-Treasurer-Elect, and our uniform chair Kyrie Schmidt. Your efforts have made all the difference, and we are incredibly grateful for your support.
Looking Ahead
As we transition into the winter season, we look forward to more exciting events and opportunities for our students to shine beginning with our Winter Concert this Friday at Windham High School. Don’t forget the performance CONCERT ATTIRE is part of the performance grade so please make sure students are wearing all of the items listed in our concert attire expectations.

Hello Band students and Parents. We had an excellent finish to our football regular season with our seniors being honored for football, cheerleaders, and the band. For this week:
Monday + Wednesday 5:30-8:30 - Indoor Winter Percussion Auditions.
Friday 11/1 - The team is playing in Exeter, however the band will not travel to this football game.
LHS MUSIC MATTRESS SALE FUNDRAISER - Sunday 11/3 10am-4pm LHS cafe - This is the simplest fundraiser you can ever participate in! Simply Text, post, email, or call family and friends to let them know of the date and time to go buy a mattress, pillow, or sheets. They can print this “REFERRAL FLYER” off or they can simply mention the student's name at checkout and a percentage of the purchase will go toward the student's music travel/activities account. Those referrals add up with one mattress purchase providing $75, $100, $125, $150, or $175 (depending on size) into the student's account!!!! If you have questions I would highly recommend watching the information night video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RmKK7lhudl5bjXqkzfqfXRJRHiaqvpPI/view?usp=sharing or feel free to reach out to me at sbeaulieu@londonderry.org
Mattress sale STUDENT SIGNUP - As advertised students do not NEED to be present at LHS on the day of the sale on SUNDAY NOVEMBER 3, BUT if students want to sign up to stand outside at certain locations on Mammoth Rd. and hold signs to advertise our sale they may. They will earn $15/hour in their travel/activities student account. There will be a few mattress costumes, for the first person at each shift who wants it, AND they may bring their instrument and play stand charts!
Students need to report to the LHS cafe 15 minutes before their signup time to check in and you need to return to the cafe to checkout after you’re done.
A SIGN-UP LINK WILL BE SENT OUT SOON.
Playoff game round #1 Saturday 11/9 - IF the team wins against Exeter this weekend they will secure a first-round bye and will not have to play on 11/9 and the team will wait to see who they have to play at home on 11/16. IF the team loses, they will have a home game on 11/9. Time is TBD, but usually kick-off is at 1pm, so our report will be 11:45am. As always I ask that band students do their best to save the date for this game. FYI subsequent playoff rounds will be Sat. 11/16, 11/23, and 11/30.

ADDITIONAL PROTOCOLS FOR AWAY GAMES/PARADES
After-school “babysitting” club - If for some reason you can’t go home after school and make it back to the school for earlier band report times, students are welcome to hang out in the band room after school. In addition, students may bring their uniform duffle bag and drop it off in the band room prior to the start of the school day. We’ll have the blue cage carts in the band room for you to place your duffle bag on.
We usually travel by 4 buses. Pick one. No assignments. Spread out between all 4 buses. PRINT your name on the bus roster. Most important Ride the SAME bus on the way back.
NO foul/inappropriate language on the buses.
Late Arrival/Early Dismissal
Students are expected to be with and/or travel with the band for the entirety of the band event. However, on occasion, we understand conflicts will arise, in which case we encourage students to do their best to make the band event. In most cases, this also helps to avoid having the student do a remediation assignment.
Late Arrival to an event
If you’re anticipating a late arrival (needs to be for a legitimate reason) and you need to meet us at the away location you NEED to complete the “Absent/Late” form at band.londonderry.org prior to report time so we know to bring your uniform jacket and pants.
You must be driven to the event by an adult parent or guardian. Per school rules, students are NOT allowed to drive themselves to any band event.
You need to work out the logistics with your instrument and uniform/duffle bag.
When arriving late you NEED to check in with Mr. Beaulieu, Mr. DiBernardo, or a chaperone. When checking in let us know if you'll be taking the bus back or not.
Early dismissal from an event
(Again, it needs to be for a REALLY good reason) Mr. B needs to know in advance with an email FROM YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN and we need to know who the person is that will be picking you up, which should be an adult.
As soon as you need to leave you MUST sign out with Mr. Beaulieu, Mr. DiBernardo, or a chaperone.
The adult picking you up MUST meet us at the game field to dismiss you (we need to see who is picking you up)
More detailed Game Day/Parade Expectations will be talked about later in the week: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AIYXHIRrhKUuVMd3goztlv2zj5F16oPzazFt-0Vy3yI/edit?usp=sharing
Band Updates 8/26/24
Good afternoon everyone. We had an excellent parade on Saturday. Thank you to all who came. However, please make sure you report if you will NOT be at an event by using the "Absent/Late" form at band.londonderry.org . Out of the 58 students who did not attend we only had 28 complete the form, which means I could have gone with 3 buses instead of 4, which would have saved us a lot of money. Please be diligent about reporting your conflicts.
This week (From this point on all events are graded. More about grading, excused/unexcused absences, etc can be found on our course syllabus at band.londonderry.org , which will be discussed during band classes this week)

Band Mums Fundraiser
We are so excited to introduce a new fall fundraiser! We are once again teaming up with Orchard Hills Greenhouse (who also supply the beautiful poinsettias for our winter fundraiser) Students will have the opportunity to sell 9-inch mums, available in red, orange/bronze shades, white, yellow and pink/purple shades. They will be sold for $15 per plant. Students will receive $8.05 for each plant they sell which will be credited to the student's account in Cut Time and able to be used for trips and other fees throughout the year.
We will be starting this first ever mums fundraiser on Monday, August 19, 2024 and it will close Thursday Sept 12th
The complete order needs to be submitted by Thursday, September 12 using the Google form below. The full payment needs to be made with ONE check (made out to the FRIENDS OF MUSIC) or cash payment, placed in a sealed envelope with “MUMS FUNDRAISER” and YOUR CHILD'S NAME printed on the front. Checks and cash can be placed in the everything box located in the front of the band room.
Mums Fundraiser link: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScL6Oq0OQ9ujxNE8BCGU60tmUyoojHiaxhnN7jFr-4ntPrFdA/viewform?usp=sf_link
The mums will need to be picked up in the high school parking lot on Saturday September 21, 2024 time (TBD). Once students/parents pick up the mums, they will need to distribute them.
Thank you for supporting our fundraiser!

We're thrilled to announce the launch of CutTime, our new software platform designed to streamline the management of student fundraising, trip payments, uniform assignments, and contact information for both students and guardians. For those of you who have been involved in the band before this year, CutTime is replacing Charms.
What You Can Do in CutTime:
Track Fundraising: See credits applied to your student’s account from fundraising efforts.
Manage Payments: View and pay any fees due for upcoming trips, uniform cleanings, or re-issued uniform items directly within the platform.
Access Important Information: Keep track of student and guardian contact details, ensuring everything is up to date.
Getting Started: Keep an eye out for a text message with your personalized "Magic Link"—this is your key to accessing your account. Once you click the link, you might be asked to enter a verification code that will be sent to your phone. After entering the code, you'll be logged into your member/guardian dashboard.
Important Note:
The access link will be sent to the cell phone number you provided in Final Forms (if you didn't get it check your phone junk folder for one of two numbers (866) 732-5971 or (844) 385-8463 ). If you don’t receive the text message, it’s possible that we don’t have your cell phone number on record. In that case, please reach out to us at fomtreasurer40@gmail.com for assistance.
Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to a great year!

Londonderry OLD HOME DAY PARADE tomorrow
9:15am - Report time at LHS (9am if you have any uniform issues)
If you're going to be absent please complete the "Absent/late" form at https://band.londonderry.org/
TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR UNIFORM:
Students should arrive with all accessories in the duffle bag.
FYI your duffle bag is designed to hold your shako box, shoes, plume, gloves, long white marching socks, and any other accessories.
A good rule of thumb is to always bring everything.
NO gloves until the weather starts getting cold, but again they should always be in your duffle bag.
All shoes should be clean! Mild soap and water does wonders! Mr. Clean sponge cleans up stubborn marks.
Uniforms go in the 600's hallways or the hallways beyond where the sousaphones are. NO uniforms in the band room please.
Changing into your uniforms takes place in the 600's hallways or the 300's hallways beyond where the sousaphones are. FYI students wear their uniform over a minimum of gym shorts and a T-shirt. NO TANK TOPS. You will not march with a tank top.
To avoid broken instruments PLEASE retrieve your instrument AFTER you are dressed, not the other way around.
10:15am - Parade starts
The parade starts at the fire station and ends at Mack's Apple's. We're first in the parade. We'll have water, trucks, and a trailer at Mack's to bring sousas and drums back to the HS.
Following the parade students will walk up Mack's dirt path, walk up Pillsbury, and walk the path past Orchard Church back to the HS.
Students should be back at LHS by 11-11:15am
FOLLOWING THE PARADE:
HANG your jacket and pants neatly back onto your wooden hanger
Bring your uniform and duffle bag HOME after every event.
NEVER leave your uniform in a vehicle as this could create a breeding ground for mold, which cannot be dry cleaned out. FYI the jacket, pants, and shako add up to $880 and are owned by the school. Each student signs a responsibility form making the uniform a financial responsibility that you must pay in order to graduate.
Once you get home, take your uniform out of the garment bag and hang it up to allow for drying and/or deodorizing.
We'll see you all tomorrow!

ALMOST THERE-Complete FinalForms
Good afternoon. If you're receiving this message it means you've successfully started the medical info in FinalForms or you were already in the system and I added your child to "COED Marching Band". However, the process is not complete. This could be for a few different reasons.
1. The student needs to go onto FinalForms and sign the "Code of Conduct" and/or "Hazing Policy Compliant" forms.
2. In looking through some students I can see that all of the forms have been completed, potentially from past sports, however you as the parent/guardian need to review each section for accuracy and press "SUBMIT" for the 24-25 school year.
If you have any problems please don't hesitate to reach out.
Serge Beaulieu
Director of Music - Londonderry School District

We need your child's MEDICAL INFORMATION on FinalForms. All members (New and continuing) must have a parent or guardian complete the required medical information. We are using FinalForms for medical information and other forms that need to be completed. Many of you are probably familiar with this platform as it's the same one used for all LMS and LHS athletics. So, if you or another parent/guardian has already started an account in the past, all you need to do is log in, choose "COED Marching Band & Color Guard" as an activity, review all past medical information and policies, and submit. If you've never used FinalForms before you will need to start an account at https://londonderry-nh.finalforms.com/ and complete all of the information.

Good morning everyone. Band Camp is halfway done. I'm very proud of the students as we've had a very productive week so far. FYI Thursday is Picture Day and the Band Camp Showcase Performance. There are some important details to review below:
1. Tomorrow's schedule is 7:30am-2:30pm; check-in will start at 7am.
2. Band Photos will be taken tomorrow. RETURNING STUDENTS must bring their clean band shoes, WHITE socks, plum, and duffle bag. After checking in please get your uniform and shako and dressed immediately. Freshman will be given everything in the morning. *Students MUST wear a shirt under their uniform jacket (NO tanktops).
3. A link to order photos will be sent as soon as we receive it from Mark Laurence.
4. At 2pm all are welcome to come and watch the band and color guard perform segments of the Billy Joel Half-Time Show.
* Frosty Ice Cream truck will be here at 1pm to satisfy your sweet tooth if you so desire. STUDENTS bring money if you want to make a purchase AFTER the show.
*Friends of Music will also have our new Jibbitz and magnets for sale. $5 each. Cash or a check can be made out to FOM.
5. Looking ahead, the band has its first parade this Saturday (yikes!) as part of the Londonderry Old Home Days celebration. I know the freshmen may be nervous, but they will do a great job. We're asking them to look great and not stress abouyt playing the music. Upper classmen have the music memorized from last year so they will make them sound great.
SATURDAY – Londonderry Old Home Days parade
9:15am - Report time at LHS (9am if there are any uniform issues)
10:15am – Parade starts. The parade route starts at the high school/fire station and ends at Mack’s Apples. The students will WALK back through the apple orchards and past Moose Hill to get back to the HS.

Band Updates for 7/16/24
Band parents and students,
So far we are off to a fantastic start to the year! The first week of practice has gone extremely well! In case you weren't here, the students had a chance to meet the new Assistant Band Director Mr. Devin DiBernardo. A little background on Mr. D:
Devin is a graduate of Spaulding High School, whose marching band is VERY similar to our marching band. He then attended the University of New Hampshire where he majored in Music Education and his instrument concentration was French Horn. He also marched Mellophone in the UNH Marching Band. Mr. D's student teaching placement was with us here at LHS in the spring of 2021, and the students LOVED him. He was a hilarious student teacher that all of the students quickly warmed up to. Following that he was at Merrimack Valley HS and Middle School for 1 year where he taught band and chorus, and his last two years were at Somersworth HS teaching band and chorus where he doubled the size of the band! If you get a chance to stop in please welcome Mr. D.
Some very IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR THIS WEEK:
UNIFORM FITTINGS BEGIN TOMORROW!
Incoming freshmen and new band & color guard students NEED TO schedule an appointment for a fitting using the following link: Uniform Fittings Summer 2024 Fittings will take place during summer rehearsals on Wednesday nights.

Please pay the "Freshman/New Member fee" which covers all additional accessories needed when wearing the Lancer Uniform. Please use this link: https://lancermusic.ludus.com/200458369 to pay for your New Member package and band camp lunches. If there are any issues with paying this PLEASE don't hesitate to reach out to me. Band Updates 7/8/24
Good evening Band parents and students. Hopefully you all had an opportunity to enjoy some time off during the 4th of July holiday. Some updates for this week:
Band Practice this week!
Just a reminder that Percussion(including mallets) and Colorguard practice starts this Tuesday 5:30-8:30pm and Full Band starts this Wednesday 5:30-8:30pm. These rehearsals are not optional if you're planning on being a part of the band this year and are crucial to the success of our band program. Again, if you’re away on vacation or a camp, have fun, but if you’re in town plan to join us. By the way, work is NOT an excuse. Please let your employer know of your conflicts. This is an important life skill and you can do it!
CutTime NOT Charms
There was an error in the Informational Summer Newsletter, which was my fault. Starting this school year we will not be using Charms and we are switching over to CutTime. Please standby for further information later this summer and for now just ignore the Charms instruction in the newsletter.
MEDICAL INFORMATION on FinalForms due this week if you’re attending practice:
All members (New and continuing) must have a parent or guardian complete the required medical information. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE UNTIL ALL INFO IS COMPLETE
*NEW this year - We are using FinalForms for medical information and other forms that need to be completed.
FYI, if you have already completed the registration, thank you, but we have added 2 new forms that now need to be completed so please log on and complete those.

Upcoming Spring Concerts
Hi everyone. Just a reminder that we have our annual Band and Jazz Concert Wednesday May 15 and our Chorus and Orchestra Concert is Wednesday May 22 both at the HS gym @7pm
This is always a bittersweet event as this will be the last concert for our graduating seniors.
PARENTS OF SENIORS - Prior to the concert starting, I will read off the list of seniors, they will line up to be recognized, and a family member or family friend should come down from their seats, receive a pin, and then join their senior to pin the pin on their shirt. Please feel free to take a few minutes to take pictures.
REMINDER - Dress is black concert attire (black dress shirt, black dress pants (men and women) and black dress shoes. A blue tie or scarf will be provided.
We also still need more volunteers for the concerts. Sign-ups are here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F044AABAE22A1FD0-47098973-lhsspring#/ Reminder most of the volunteer expectations are prior to the concert starting, so you will still be able to watch the performance and early arrival means you get to save a seat for yourself and family. HOWEVER, many of our parent PHOTOGRAPHERS have graduating seniors and we do not expect them to photograph during their child's last concert. We are in need of new volunteers who can take photos during concerts. You DO NOT need a professional camera. A basic dslr camera will be fine and one of the FOM members can tell you how to upload to the smugmug site.

REMINDER: HS Band SPRING TRAINING practice this THURSDAY
Hi everyone. Just a reminder that the first Band “Spring Training” practice is this Thursday.
If you have a conflict, we totally understand, but if you're available we expect students to attend. Parents or students should complete the “ABSENT/LATE Form” on band.londonderry.org if they will not be at upcoming rehearsals or arriving late.
IF 8th-grade students are interested in moving to a new instrument option listed below, PLEASE contact me prior to Thursday so I know to get an instrument ready for you sbeaulieu@londonderrr.org
If you were originally on the fence about doing band and didn’t add it to your course selection, but have since had second thoughts, come by and try it! You will have a really fun time and will inspire you to join.
Also, pending school board approval I can unofficially announce that next year’s band trip will be to New York City. I will be planning a fun trip of sight-seeing and shows, as well as marching in the world’s largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

HS Band SPRING TRAINING practices
Hello 2024-2025 Lancer Band students and parents,
Before we end the month of April, I wanted to make you aware of 4 Spring Training band practices for all students planning on doing band at the High school next school year. Part of these practices will be geared towards getting the current 8th graders acquainted with the way we do marching band, but current 9-11 grade students should plan to be there. It’s also a great icebreaker opportunity for the 8th-grade students who may be nervous. We’ll be working on fairly simple stuff by passing out fun songs that we often use in parades and football games and working on marching basics. If students have a conflict, we totally understand, but if you're available we expect students to attend. The schedule has been designed so hopefully everyone can make most if not all the practices. Here’s the schedule:
· Thursday May 2 6:30-8pm
· Wednesday May 8 6:30-8pm
· Tuesday May 14 6:30-8pm
· Monday May 20 6:30-8pm (PERCUSSION/MALLETS AND COLOR GUARD ONLY)
If students can’t make a practice, PLEASE let me know by completing the BAND ABSENT FORM found on the new LHS Band WEBSITE . In fact, I ask that this happens all year long.
All sessions are at the HS music department. Drop-off is at the MUSIC DEPT. entrance. Enter the HS at the traffic light, drive straight down the driveway to the end, and the music entrance(DOOR 18) is on the right. FOM parents will be on hand to welcome them and direct the students from there. Students should arrive with the instrument that they plan on using for MARCHING BAND. Current percussionists and tuba players will be provided with the high school equipment (drums, mallets, and/or sousaphones) and students and staff will be on hand to help outfit you.
Finally, students that wish to make the following instrument switch should contact Mr. Beaulieu before practice starts so we can work out a plan for you:
Piccolo - All flutists convert to piccolo for marching. WE WILL PROVIDE ONE FOR YOU and we’ll have that ready for the first practice.
Tenor Sax - We're always looking for plenty of tenors to beef up our low brass sound. Alto saxophonists convert really quickly to this instrument, but we've had success with other students switching as well such as clarinets.
Mellophone - The marching french horn. Trumpet players convert well to this instrument, however we've had a lot of success with students from other sections as well.
Sousaphone - The marching tuba. Students from varying backgrounds have switched to this instrument because of its awesome beauty. Photographers love taking pictures of the Sousa players so be prepared to be on the front page of the paper and social media!
Finally, just a reminder that BAND CAMP is AUGUST 12-15. This is a 4-day event from 9am-4pm (7:30am-2:30pm on Thursday) where we learn the entire halftime show.
As always if you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

HS Band Percussion Sessions for 8th Grade Percussionist
Hi everyone. I hope you're all enjoying a nice snow day and hopefully, you still have power. Sorry this is last minute (the date snuck up on me), but we will be holding 2 sessions on Tuesday April 9, Thursday April 11 from 6:30-8pm for any 8th-grade percussionist planning to be in the HS band next year. Please make every effort to make at least one, but we'd like to see you at both of them. IF you have prior plans PLEASE do not worry, but be sure to email me sbeaulieu@londonderry.org so I know that you’re interested but have an unavoidable conflict. These will be fun "get to know you" sessions. It will only be with the 8th-grade percussionist, myself, my assistant director Ms. Dawson, and Drumline instructor Keith Veale. The HS students will not be joining us. We will focus on introducing ourselves, learning what instruments you're interested in for the marching portion of our year, reading through some basic rhythms, and learning a small percussion ensemble piece. All students should come with a pair of drumsticks. We will provide mallets for any of you interested in mallet percussion.
FYI in May, and a few dates in June for percussion (more info will go out to the whole band soon), we hold a series of “Spring Training” dates to begin preparations for next year’s band. If students have a conflict, like spring sports we totally understand, but if you're available we expect students to attend. Those dates can be found on our music dept. calendar: https://www.lancermusic.org/calendarupdates For percussion, the May dates are important because it’s when we begin the placement audition process. Don’t worry, everyone gets in the band, but since there are so many different percussion options, we need to find out what instrument is best for everyone and we need to achieve a balanced group. So the April dates listed above are a chance for us to get you all prepared for that audition process.
I hope to see you all there. PLEASE feel free to reach out with any questions. Again, if you can’t make it, don’t worry, but email me to let me know.

SMYTH FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP for SUMMER YOUTH MUSIC SCHOOL @ UNH (SYMS)
SYMS is an outstanding summer music camp that has been running for almost 50 years. Students not only participate in a large ensemble experience but also have a myriad of choices for electives like instrument studio, guitar, basic piano, jazz bands, small chamber groups(sax quartet, vocal octet, woodwind choir, guitar ensemble, brass choir), jazz improv, music theory, private lessons, etc. In addition, each evening is filled with fun activities and/or concerts. Students stay in dorms on campus and eat in UNH's outstanding dining halls (all-you-can-eat FRO-YO!!)
Londonderry students who wish to attend the Summer Youth Music School at UNH (senior session- July 20 to July 28) this summer are eligible for a $300 scholarship through the Fredrick Smyth Foundation in Manchester. However, a parent or guardian needs to complete THIS FORM by FRIDAY, APRIL 26 AND parents/guardians MUST register the student for the SYMS camp through the SYMS website by May 1
IMPORTANT: The scholarship form is not a registration for SYMS. To register for SYMS parents must visit this website https://www.unh.edu/youthprograms/course/syms-summer-youth-music-school In order to retain the scholarship students must have registered and submitted a non-refundable deposit to SYMS before MAY 1st.
Key points about the camp and this process:
Camp Dates - Saturday, July 20 to Sunday, July 28
Cost - $899 for residents and $699 for commuters
Scholarship - They are offering ALL students in the greater Manchester area (which includes Londonderry) a $300 Smyth Fund scholarship to the 2024 SYMS camp. For resident campers, that will bring the cost of the camp down to $599 (which includes housing in the dorms and breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a dining hall on campus) and if students commute it brings the cost down to $399 both of which are a pretty good deal!
Registration – Please register students for the camp as soon as possible, but only pay the deposit at this point. Once they know how many students have registered, there is actually a possibility that they may be able to increase the amount of their scholarship award! FYI scholarship money will appear in your SYMS account after May 1.

Londonderry High School Lancer Marching Band
8th grade Band Parents,
My name is Serge Beaulieu. I am the Director of Music for the school district as well as the Band Director at Londonderry High School. As course selection for the incoming 9th grade class is approaching, we conducted our annual visit to the 8th grade bands to talk about enrolling in the band class at the HS and our amazing Lancer Marching Band. Here is some of the information we went over with them in this INFORMATION PACKET that was handed to the students when we visited, which will answer a lot of basic questions. I’m sure many of you are aware of the amazing opportunities this band has to offer, but if you’re not I’ve included some video links in the info packet as well as our impressive resume.
After reading the info packet that’s attached, if you have any questions about your child's participation, please feel free to contact me.

Lancer Band on ICE at UMASS LOWELL HOCKEY!
Hi everyone. I know we are all so hyper-focused on London, but I wanted to get this info out ASAP. The Lancer Marching Band has been invited to perform at a UMass Lowell hockey game ON THE ICE on Friday January 26, 2024 @7:15pm. No skating skills required! This will be similar to what the band used to do when the Manchester Monarchs were at the SNHU Arena. The students will perform the National Anthem before the game in the stands, have a chance to watch and enjoy the game, and then perform a few selections on the ice during the second intermission. Family and friends are welcome to go!
The ticket link below is for family and friends seated in section 110. Free tickets will be provided to our band students and chaperones in section 111. FYI these special tickets can not be ordered at the door.

London FINAL Itinerary, Guidelines, and packing list
Good morning students and parents! As we get closer to the London trip I would like everyone to begin to review the FINAL ITINERARY & GUIDELINES, which has been updated on the London Trip Hub: https://sites.google.com/londonderry.org/londontrip2023/home (Again, I want everyone who's traveling to London to save this to the desktop of their phone. See instructions below)
A VERY IMPORTANT meeting will be held this SUNDAY during band practice (6:30-8:30PM [not 4:30]) to review this info and student expectations. Parents who wish to listen in to the meeting and ask questions may do so by using this video link: https://meet.google.com/imf-hbvw-hbc?hs=122&authuser=0 We will start the meeting at approximately at 6:40pm. Students who miss the meeting will be required to watch during their band class the following day and sign the final contract.
A few items listed in the “FINAL London Itinerary and Guidelines” that may need IMMEDIATE attention:
If any prescription medications have changed or been added since completing the 2023-24 Music Department Medical Form please complete this Prescription Medications Form and return it (in an envelope) to the music dept. by Monday, December 18, 2023.
TYPE G POWER CONVERTER like this: POWER CONVERTER You absolutely need this! Your regular plug will not work/plug into U.K. sockets.
PHONES & DATA PLANS - I would HIGHLY suggest that all of the students traveling look into adding a “Travel Pass” or “Global Pass” to their cell phone plan. Much of our travels will be in areas where WIFI is not accessible, and they will need data for us to communicate with them via the REMIND app. In addition, they may need online maps to find locations of restaurants and shops when we give them time to get lunch or dinner. Travel passes are fairly cheap at $7-$10 per day and usually provide unlimited data. Check with your student’s cell phone carrier, and usually advanced setup is necessary.

11:30am - Buses depart.
1:00pm - Game starts.
2pmish - Approximate band halftime show
3:15pm - Approx. end time

**UNIFORM COLLECTION following game – We NEED to collect uniforms following Saturday’s game so we can get them all to the CLEANERS on Monday. IF you are not planning to be at this Saturday’s game PLEASE plan to bring your uniform stuff in TOMORROW or NEXT MONDAY. We still have one more parade in Merrimac Ma, on December 3, but if we don’t get the uniforms to the cleaners soon, we won’t have enough time to turn them around for the truck to London on December 15.
Color Guard, we are collecting:
Leggings, shoes, field show unform, and hanger ALL inside your garment bag
Band members we’re collecting your:
Jacket, pants, shoes, and hanger ALL inside your garment bag(will be shipped to London for you)
Shako and plume in your case. (will be shipped to London for you)
IF YOU’RE NOT GOING TO LONDON we will still collect your uniform, but we’ll have a separate table for you.
FOR THE MERRIMAC PARADE we need everyone to wear their concert black dress pants, comfy shoes, and we will be issuing London jackets. For students who are not traveling to London we will loan you London jackets from staff or chaperones.
Finally, In light of the busy weekend we just had, and next Saturday's playoff game I’ve decided to CANCEL London practice for Sunday Nov 26.

Good afternoon everyone. Our first London practice was outstanding. We have our second one tonight from 6:30-8:30pm. We’ll continue to work on the TV area routine and how to get in and out of that.
London Trip Hub
There has been a lot information that has been sent out over the last few months, so now that we’re getting closer I want to direct everyone to the LONDON TRIP HUB - https://sites.google.com/londonderry.org/londontrip2023/home Please check it out.
I want everyone who's traveling to London to save this to the desktop of their phone so you’ll always have this information readily available. To do that:
Click on the link above on your cell phone
Once the site opens
on Safari Browser press the box with up arrow icon at the bottom of your screen
on Google Chrome Browser press the box with up arrow icon at the top of your screen, located to the right of the web address.
Scroll down and select "Add to Home Screen"
This process will create an “app” type icon on your phone making the trip information easy to find. I’ll be adding more as we get closer and will certainly take any suggestions you have for what to add.
Data plans
I would HIGHLY suggest that all of the students traveling look into adding a “Travel Pass” or “Global Pass” to their cell phone plan. Most of our travels will be in areas where WIFI is not accessible, and they will need data for us to communicate with them via the REMIND app and they may need maps to find locations of restaurants and shops when we give them time to get lunch or dinner. Travel passes are fairly cheap at $7-$10 per day and usually provide unlimited data. Check with your student’s cell phone carrier, and usually advanced setup is necessary.
Transportation
We will be meeting at Londonderry High School on December 27 at 3:30pm to transport your child to Boston Logan Airport via coach buses. I will NOT entertain request to meet us at the airport for any reason. Please understand the logistics involved with those sorts of request are overwhelming. Please plan accordingly to have your child here at LHS. Conversely, upon return to Boston on January 3rd, we will not allow students to be picked up at Logan Airport for the same reason.
Parking at LHS
For your long-range planning we ask that you work out a plan, and possibly a back-up plan, to have students dropped off on Dec 27. This is so we can keep the parking lot clear should there be a winter storm and ground crews need to plow. We will be asking chaperones to either carpool or work out a way to get dropped off. In addition, we have school on Jan 2 and 3 prior to us returning so the parking lots cannot have additional cars in it.
NEW instrument?
Often times a fantastic holiday gift for a teenager, that is very difficult to buy for, is an upgraded musical instrument. However, please keep in mind the instrument for London will be shipping to London around December 15, so please make sure you make that purchase well before that to allow time for the student to acclimate to the new instrument. If parents need help with how to go about making the correct purchase please feel free to reach out to me.
