ONE WILD READ is our school-wide reading program where every student, family, and staff member reads the exact same book at the same time. Our goal for this program is that by reading together, we will reinforce reading instruction, increase parental involvement, bridge the home-school connection, and build a true community of readers.

We have split the chosen book into sections and created a READING SCHEDULE designed to keep all of us at around the same part of the book. We hope that classroom teachers and parents will have conversations about the book with their students. If you read at a different pace, that is okay, as well.
Each week, we will load videos of GUEST READERS on this website. Here, you can follow along with your copy of the book and enjoy some of our district leaders reading with you.
Come here each week for a chance to WIN PRIZES! We will load quiz questions for your family to answer together. By simply filling out the form, your student's name will be entered into a weekly drawing to win prizes at lunch.
We will have a FAMILY EVENT evening to conclude this program, which will include a lot of fun and a viewing of the movie The Tale of Despereaux.

This is a fairy tale about a mouse, a rat, a princess, and a cast of otherwise michevious rascals.
Despereaux is different. Very different. His family noticed it from the moment he was born, open-eyed and giant-eared. His mother weeped at the sight of her son and thought surely he would not survive. He does, indeed survive, but never learns how to quite act like a mouse. His true love? A princess whose voice is the most beautiful thing Despereaux has ever heard. He makes a giant mistake and lands himself in the castle dungeon to never see his princess again.
Also in the castle dungeon is Roscuro, a rat sent to his doom for causing the death of a royal family member. While in prison, he dreams of getting revenge on the royal family and speaks of his awful plans to anyone who will listen. When Despereaux hears this plan, he knows he must be brave and save his beloved princess from a horrible fate. But how can a mouse of his size save an entire royal family? Armed with a red spool of thread and some unlikely friends, he is determined to try.
Will this fairy tale end in happily ever after?
