Online Calendar
Each day the math assignments will be posted to the Online Calendar that is posted to a student’s Google Classroom. Each day will consist of an agenda, a series of videos, and assignments that students are to complete and upload.
Materials
Students will be given a packet of assignments by semester that should be placed in a binder. Students should keep the assignments in their binder after they have completed them and return them to the binder after they have been graded and returned. There are six sections to the binder that have been separated out for the students. The six sections are SLOTs, Mental Math, Classwork Sheets, Standards Based Worksheets, Benchmark Reviews, and Mind-Maps. Please watch the video to see how the binder is organized.
Google Classroom
Google Classroom provides a structure for teachers to assign work and for students to turn in their assignments. Please watch the video to see how Google Classrooms are organized for students.
EdPuzzle
EdPuzzle is the website that is used to host our videos. EdPuzzle is a great tool for teachers because it creates an easy to use platform that allows us to monitor what students are watching the videos (because when they don’t we get poor work from them). Please watch the video to see how EdPuzzle works for the teacher and student.
Mental Math
Mental Math is one of the primary tools that we use to help students develop numeracy skills for students. Numeracy is one of the foundations of mathematics, so it is important that we spend time developing the numerical skills of our students. Please watch the video to see how Mental Math works for students.
SLOTs
SLOT is an acronym that stands for Sustained Learning Over Time. It is one of the tools we use in our math department to develop procedural knowledge for our students. SLOTs are packets that are included in each student binder. Students will be provided step by step videos on how to complete each sheet. Please watch the video to see how SLOTs work on the student end.
Notes
Notes are a tool used by teachers to introduce new concepts and to model mathematics for students. On most days students will be given notes in class, but a video of notes will also be provided for students that are absent that they should copy into their notebook. Please watch the video to see how notes work on the student end.
Grading and Assessment
Grades in the math department consist of classwork/homework and assessments. Classwork/Homework makes up 20% of a student’s grade and assessment makes up 80% of a student’s grade.
