I'm a graduate from Texas A&M, Corpus Christi, with a BBA in Marketing, and teaching certification from West Texas A&M University, in 4-8 English Language Arts as well as an ESL certification. I’ve been teaching since 2006 and love it! In December of 2012, I graduated with my Masters in Science Degree, in Library Science from the University of North Texas, and hold a Texas School Librarian certification. I serve on the campus Literacy Leadership Team, the district technology Visionary Instructional Planning Committee, Common Sense Media Educator Certified and Ambassador Certified. I became a member of the Lockhart ISD family in 2007, first teaching at the Junior High (6th, 7th and 8th grade ELAR), Librarian for our ninth grade campus, and now serving as the Library Media Specialist at the Lockhart Junior High School Campus. Teaching and Library/Technology is not my only passion; I have a family of six (son, daughter, husband and myself...two pugs Rosie Chula and Izzy). My spouse and I are both educators and we support a positive, academically challenging education for all families. My philosophy includes family, fun and education.
My passion is reading and teaching Reading...mostly helping kids realize that choosing a book they can relate to and are interested in is the key to "liking" reading. Below is one of my favorite books made of short stories by a native Texas author from the Rio Grande Valley, David Rice. I once got a chance to host him in a professional development I did for the Region 13 Austin Area Library Conference. He was genuine, inspiring and kind. Most of all, my students relate to his work!
