Tell the truth

Know thyself and to thine own self be true.

To seek the truth and want to learn more.  To bring curiosity to the world.  To wonder about why things are the way they are and have a desire to understand deeply.  To be plain speaking and clear.  Our minds work best when we are free. The truth sets us free.

We live in a world of appearances.  We want to be attractive.  We want to own things.  Other people’s opinion of how successful we are matters to us.  We struggle to get ahead, but too often struggle as slaves to appearances.

When appearances overtake truth, we waste energy chasing down the wrong path.  We think that the stuff we want will bring happiness, but when we get it we are disappointed and think we need more stuff.

Clear and truthful thinking about ourselves and our world helps us choose the right path.  The right path is one where energy isn’t wasted, where we develop calm and contented insight about our life.  It is in the simplest things that we free ourselves.

Thinking and speaking plainly, with the discipline to uphold the truth, is a hallmark of strong character and the path that leads to freedom.
