Hollywood & History

Films often portray history and provide (knowingly or unknowingly) important insight into culture and society. As you might have seen in the Beauty Beast Presentation or the "Disneyfied" History article, movies often feature historical events or stories in their plot lines. Movies can also provide insight into ideologies, cultures, and events of the era in which they produced. Below you will find analysis of several movies that either feature historical content or provide a glimpse into the culture and/or ideologies of the era.

This is not an exhaustive list of historical movies and there are several other examples and/or analyses not included. If you would like to add to one based on your own research please send it me. Also, I have selected mostly popular, fiction movies to feature on this page rather than historical dramas or documentaries whose purposes are to portray history.
