ICTs are widely considered an opportunity to empower teachers and students, promote change, and foster the development of 21st-century skills by transforming teaching and learning processes from highly teacher-dominated to student-centered, and that this transformation will result in greater learning gains for students by generating and allowing them to develop their creativity, problem-solving attributes, and informational reasoning skills.
The Internet has touched all aspects of human life. It has brought ease by connecting with people around the world and has also made information available at the click of a button. We live in a society where technology has become part of our lives and every individual is carrying a cellphone, tablet, laptop, and computer. There are a lot of positive and negative effects and impacts that also contribute to a great awareness in the world of technology as we impart this in our daily lives.
In this lesson, "ICT Policies and Safety Issues: Implications for Teaching and Learning," it answers a lot of questions that are left unanswered in my mind. One of which was "the issues in ICT or Internet policy and regulation," as a type of teenager who mostly spends my time on social media and other applications. The privacy and security on the Internet might be secure and private, but they may spread and pose a risk, especially the personal information that each individual has. Another one is freedom of expression and censorship, enabling individual rights so that others will have access, or in short, third-party access. Realizing these facts, I would probably say that my safety on online platforms and in my Internet access is not actually secure, and my privacy and security are not actually protected.
Furthermore, technology is a phenomenon that seems to be uncontrollable. I would like to address my concern with regard to cybercrimes, as this is driven also in this lesson. The cyberworld offers a wide range of learning opportunities. But these opportunities and the endless ocean of knowledge they open to us have some drawbacks. The increased connectivity and access to knowledge come with a price: the evils of criminality such as cyberbullying, child pornography, illegal recruitment, illegal access, cybersex, cyber discrimination, libel, and others.
And Yes, we could say, technology is functioning to develop human knowledge and facilitate daily life demands, not to be misused for self-advantage, and in fact, children are mostly the target of crime. Now action should be taken seriously; it should be now, not tomorrow, and the future should be at hand.
In addition, we should be mindful of the e-waste that is being thrown away to the land and to the atmosphere. E-wastes if not handled properly, can cause serious health hazards and lead to environmental pollution. Hence each of us must be committed to cutting down the waste and use, reuse and recycle all e-waste. save everyone, save mother earth!
As a future educator we should educate our students, learners still need guidance on how to use and regulate technology use. As there are positive and negative effects of technology use, learners should know the difference. Learners should not only know the benefits of technology use, but they should also know how they can be protected from the hazards that technology brings to their lives.
Lastly, we should be vigilant and learn through awareness, education, information, and technology. That is why always, THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK.
