Learning a band instrument is a lifelong skill that allows students to express themselves through music. Students in band are part of a team and family where no student is simply a “benchwarmer.” Students will immediately be surrounded by new friends and a family, making the transition into junior high EASY! Studies show that students who are involved in music also do well academically, but most important of all, being in band is pure fun!
The NCJH Band Program has always had the highest standards for student musicianship, and we would LOVE to invite your child to be a part of it. Here are a few things to consider:
No experience is necessary.
Most students who join band at North Corbin have no previous experience with music. We learn every detail from the start together.
Instruments are easy to find.
There are many music stores in our area, and all of them offer great rental programs with very low monthly costs ($25-$35 dollars a month). All music stores also have used instruments at extremely affordable prices. If finding an instrument is the only thing holding you and your child back, please contact me. I will do everything I can to help!
Band is the largest organization on our campus.
The band is the largest organization at NCJH, with approximately 140 students currently involved. Many of our band students are the leaders in academic achievement and school spirit.
Band does not interfere with sports.
Our band is made up of football players, basketball players, track members, cheerleaders, and many more! I will always work with you, your child, and their coaches to accommodate any sport they participate in.
Music will change your child’s life!
Music is the MOST incredible gift you could ever give your child. Being involved with music teaches hard work, self-discipline, persistence, determination, creativity, social skills, and the list could go on!
Please discuss the idea of band with your child and if they wish, allow them the opportunity to experience music. It’s really simple to join—just choose “beginning band” on the elective form. Once your child has chosen band, please DO NOT go buy or rent an instrument! I will provide very detailed information at the beginning of next school year on obtaining an instrument.
Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns. I am so excited for your child to have the opportunity to learn music through the NCJH Band Program!
