This event features a financial aid expert and presenter from the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) who explains in great detail the financial aid process, walks families through the steps of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application, speaks about the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile that some colleges utilize and highlights scholarship opportunities to take advantage of.

CSS Profile (College Scholarship Service Profile): is an online application created by the College Board for collecting family financial information to award non-federal institutional aid, such as grants and scholarships, from participating colleges and organizations.

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): is a free form that determines your eligibility for federal, state, and college financial aid like grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and loans. By submitting the FAFSA, you can access financial aid to help pay for higher education. The application is available online and is used by many states and colleges to award their own aid packages.
HESAA (Higher Education Student Assistance Authority): the state agency that provides financial support for New Jersey residents to attend college and other post-high school education. It offers a variety of aid programs, including grants like the Tuition Aid Grant (TAG), scholarships such as the NJ STARS, and supplemental loans like NJCLASS. HESAA also promotes the NJBEST 529 college savings plan to help families save for college expenses.

Check on individual websites for specific scholarships offered at that institution/college as well as how to apply and deadlines. This information is accessible directly on their individual website. Students are encouraged to call Offices of Financial Aid or Admissions to ask about any opportunities that they may be eligible for/apply to. The specific process will be unqiue to each program.

Pay attention to information that is sent home from LHS, LPS as well as what is shared in the paper and TAP. While LHS hosts our annual scholarship night each year for Seniors in June, there may be other opportunities from local organizations at other times that students can apply for.
