WILL I BE ABLE TO MEET MY CHILD'S TEACHER?

Meet Your Teacher will be held virtually On July 29th. Please continue to monitor information for details.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DISTANCE LEARNING TO LOOK LIKE?

Distance learning will provide our students with synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities in all four content areas: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and History & Social Sciences. In addition to these four content areas students will be engaging in synchronous special area classes which will include Music, Art, and Physical Education. Teachers will be engaging with each student daily in whole and small group settings through Google Classroom and Google Meet. These sessions will allow students to interact with their peers as well as their teacher multiple times throughout their day. In addition to the synchronous learning opportunities, students will have a series of asynchronous learning activities prepared by their teacher that they will complete independently using Google Classroom. These activities will include pre-recorded videos that will guide students through the activities they will be completing. These activities will be planned and prepared using our district’s curriculum resources and will provide students the opportunity to demonstrate their learning of grade level standards, concepts and skills in a variety of ways. To support distance learning families will have the opportunity to pick up a device from their child’s school beginning July 27th. Sessions will also be prepared to engage our families in supporting the distance learning model for their child/ren.

*synchronous learning is learning that happens in real time where child/ren see and hear their teacher and peers and can interact with them

*asynchronous learning is learning that occurs through Google Classroom without real time interaction and students work independently with supportive videos their teacher has created

IS THE EXPECTATION THAT STUDENTS ARE LOGGED ON DURING THE NORMAL SCHOOL HOURS OR CAN THEY DO THE STUDIES WHEN A PARENT GETS HOME?

Asynchronous learning activities can be completed any time during the day. There are also several synchronous learning times scheduled for the student that will allow them to interact with their teacher and peers. These sessions will be aligned to core content areas as well as special area classes such as physical education, art and music. These sessions will be scheduled during the regular school day following the same school hours from last year. If there is something that prohibits students from joining these live sessions, they will be recorded and can be accessed anytime in the Google Classroom.

WILL THE STUDENTS BE GRADED DURING DISTANCE LEARNING?

Grading during distance learning will follow our regular district expectations. Students will be completing checks for understanding as well as assessments. T eachers will communicate with their students which activities/assignments will be graded as well as when an assessment will be administered.

HOW CAN PARENTS HELP SUPPORT LEARNING?

Partner with your child’s school/teacher. Communicate often. Monitor progress, ask questions and build a relationship.

Ask your child what would help them while learning at home.

Keep a positive attitude. Positive talk about school, learning and even current events can build confidence and lessen anxiety.

Encourage your child to read. Helping your child become a reader is the single most important thing that you can do to help the child to succeed in school-and in life.

Encourage your child to be responsible and work independently. Create a space. Set expectations. Establish routines. Get supplies.

WILL ATTENDANCE BE TAKEN?

Attendance will be taken first thing in the morning in class and online.

MY CHILD RECEIVES SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES OR HAS A 504 PLAN. HOW WILL THIS WORK?

  • For students who receive special education services, they will still receive their services; it will be virtually rather than in person, for now. Your child’s case manager and/or related service providers (Speech Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, etc.) will schedule these services for during school hours. If your student participates in general education class/es, the teacher has access to the IEP for the accommodations and/or modifications to support the success of your child. The special education teacher is also responsible for communicating with the general education teacher/s to ensure your child’s needs are met.

  • For a student who has a 504, the assistant principal remains the case manager and the teacher/s of your child have access to the 504 plan to support meeting the needs of your child.

WILL TEACHERS BE AVAILABLE TO TALK ABOUT ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS MY STUDENTS OR I MIGHT HAVE?

Each teacher will have daily office hours where students can ask questions, talk about their assignments and receive additional help.

HOW MANY HOURS WILL MY CHILD NEED TO DEDICATE THEMSELVES TO THEIR WORK?

A student should expect to spend between four and six hours a day (depending on their grade level) between their synchronous and asynchronous learning activities.

WILL STUDENTS RECEIVE SCHOOL MEALS WHILE THEY ARE DISTANCE LEARNING?

Free school meals (breakfast and lunch) are available for pick up on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 10:00 A.M. and 12:00 noon and 4:00 P.M and 5:00 P.M. at Country Place Leadership Academy and Estrella Vista STEM Academy. WHAT SHOULD MY STUDENT BRING TO SCHOOL EACH DAY?

Please review this flyer for a daily student checklist.

I'M IN THE B MODEL, DO I NEED TO ATTEND THE DAYS I AM NOT SCHEDULED TO BE IN THE CLASSROOM?

Students are expected to log on and participate virtually during the school day on the three days they are not assigned to be on campus. In Arizona, it is the law that children between the ages of six and sixteen years of age attend school during the hours that school is in session. The school calendar year is made up of 180 days. A.R.S. 15-803

WHO SHOULD I CALL IF MY STUDENT IS GOING TO MISS SCHOOL?

If your child will be absent, please call the school front office to excuse the absence. In the case of a positive COVID-19 test or a need to quarantine, please contact your school health office.

DO I HAVE TO CALL EVEN IF MY CHILD IS NOT SCHEDULED TO BE IN THE CLASSROOM?

Yes. Attendance is taken daily for both in-person students as well as distance learning students. Communication is important for both safety and academic success.

WHY ARE YOU USING THE AUTODIALER TO CALL ME TO REPORT ABSENCES?

It is mandatory that we notify parents whether students are learning online or in person about any unexcused absences in the interest of safety. Some parents have reported that they were unaware that their children were skipping online classes so the autodialer is a way to keep parents informed. You can also monitor your child’s absences in ParentVue.

IS THERE A PLACE I CAN GO TO IN ORDER TO HELP MY STUDENTS WITH THEIR ONLINE LEARNING?

Visit our Parent Help Website that has how to videos and step by step directions for our online platforms. On this website you can also submit a help desk ticket if you are having trouble with your school issued device.

MIGHT MY CHILD'S TEACHER CHANGE?

WHAT WILL IN-PERSON LEARNING LOOK LIKE?

Classrooms will be at full capacity. However, we will be minimizing movement and everyone on campus will need to wear facemasks and wash hands frequently.

WHEN IS IN-PERSON LEARNING SCHEDULED TO START?
