Course Description:
The Year 11 course involves the study of design, communication techniques, manufacturing methods, fibres, yarns, fabrics and the Australian Textile, Clothing, Footwear and Allied Industries. Practical experiences are integrated throughout the content areas and will include two Year 11 textile projects.
The HSC course builds upon the Year 11 course and involves fabric colouration and decoration, historical design development, the influence of culture on design, contemporary designers, end-use applications of textiles, innovations and emerging technologies, appropriate textile technology and environmental sustainability, current issues and the marketplace. This course involves the design, manufacture and management of a Major Textiles Project which includes supporting documentation.

Course Requirements:
In the Year 11 course students will undertake two Year 11 textile projects. Year 11 Project 1 will be drawn from the area of study Design. Year 11 Project 2 will be drawn from the area of study Properties and Performance of Textiles.
In the HSC course, the Major Textiles Project requires students to design, manufacture and manage a textile project and supporting documentation from one of the following focus areas: apparel, furnishings, costume, textile arts, and non-apparel. The selected focus area allows students to explore in detail one area of interest through a creative textile design process that integrates the areas of Design, Properties and Performance of Textiles and the Australian Textile, Clothing, Footwear and Allied Industries. Supporting documentation for the textile item and the textile item are of equal weighting, and together they account for 50% of the HSC mark.
