Food Technology gives you a great way to develop skills for life. 

As part of your studies you will:

• gain a broad knowledge and understanding of the properties of food

• processing techniques

• preparation techniques

• nutritional considerations

• consumption patterns 

• understand the importance of hygiene and safe work practices that fall within food legislation requirements.

There are four unit topics in year 9 Food technology, these are:

• Food Selection and Health

• Food in Australia

• Food Product Development

• Food Equity

There are four assessments tasks, one for each unit all weighted 25% each.

Overall the subject is broken into 40% theory and 60% practical components.

You will develop food-specific skills, which can be applied in a range of contexts, enabling you to produce quality food products.  You will develop practical skills in preparing and presenting food.  You will explore a variety of food-related issues through theory and practical experiences that will allow you to use appropriate ingredients, methods and equipment to produce quality food experiences for yourself and others.
