Industrial technology – Timber products & furniture technologies allows students to specialize in timber furniture productions.

During the course, a significant amount of time will be spent on practical work. The remaining time will involve a study of theoretical aspects of the course and a study of an Industry associated with the chosen technology (through industrial visits, research).

This subject is offered to students interested in either pursuing further study at University in the fields of: Industrial design, cabinet making, construction or engineering. Or TAFE and entering the workforce through the apprenticeship pathway.

Rational

Industrial technology has been developed to incorporate content related to current and developing technologies. It offers students the opportunity to study the interrelationships of technologies, equipment and materials used by industry and to develop skills through the processes of design, planning and production.

It also caters for students who wish to undertake further study in a related area at university level or to pursue further industry training. Therefore the skills and knowledge gained through the study of Industrial Technology Stage 6 will enable students to make positive contributions to Australian industry and society.

During the course, students learn to:

Year 11 Course

Practical skill enhancing exercises and minor projects combined with a study of industry in their focus area.

Year 12 Course

The development of a major project and folio in your focus strand and a broad study of industry.

Course costs:

Students will be expected to pay for the materials used in the production of their major practical project. All other course associated costs are included in the general school contribution.
