Lisbon High School
Throughout the 2016-17 school year band, chorus, and string students from grades 6-12 worked collaboratively to put together a diverse program of American music for a concert tour of Washington, D.C. in June of 2017. While in our Nation's Capital student got the chance to visit the Smithsonian Institute's Natural History and Air & Space Museums, the Arlington National Cemetery, the War Memorials, and the National Zoo. We were honored and humbled to be given the chance to perform at the Iwo Jima and World War II Memorials. We also attended an incredible performance of the Sound of Music at the prestigious Kennedy Center for the Arts. One of the most memorable moments from our tour was performing for a group of Honor Flight veteran's while at the World War II Memorial. Seeing these brave heroes stand as we played the song that represents each of their branches of the service was deeply moving and powerful.
Many thanks to all the members of our school community for helping to bring this vision to life. Special thanks to the members of the Lisbon Music Boosters Association, the Lisbon School Committee, the countless parent and student volunteers that assisted with events and fundraisers, the Lisbon American Legion Post, Northeast Charter, American Musical Salute and our tour guide Kenny Burns.
