What is a day in the life like at your job? 

I work at a small marketing agency company so  the pace can be slow or fast. We work in an agile environment so tasks and projects come and  go. My day usually consists of checking emails, attending project or client meetings,  completing website maintenance tasks for new features or bug fixes. On top of maintenance  tasks, I also work on my project specific related tasks as well.

What do you love about your job? 

There is always something new to work on. Marketing  agencies work with a variety of clients from different industries so I like that the work is  constantly different. 

What is challenging about your role? 

There are days when you might need to work long  hours. At times like that, it can be hard to keep that work/life balance. 

What are the benefits of working in this field? 

The world of technology is constantly  changing and the opportunities are endless. It’s all about what YOU want to do, and changing  roles is pretty achievable once you start getting your feet wet.  

What experiences did you have that prepared you for this role? 

I had an internship for a  little over a year and I think it really helped me get a better idea of what “working in tech”  meant. I got a sense of what meeting deadlines and working in a professional environment  entailed. Overall, my internship gave me confidence in the route I was taking professionally. I  also had a mentor, which I highly recommend for anyone starting to look into job applications!  She gave me some much insight and hope, especially as a woman in technology. 

What do you see happening in the future for these types of careers? 

Again, the opportunities are endless. Technology is going to forever exist and be needed. The jobs might shift from web to more apps but the need will always be there.  

What should a student know about your field? 

Entering into the world of tech can be intimidating and hard at first, but don’t give up! The rewards at the end of your journey are so worth it. Working in technology doesn’t just mean coding either! 

What advice do you have for a student considering a career in your profession?  

Research it, try it, and if you want to learn more than DO IT! I myself never thought I would  work in technology, but it has been one of my greatest decisions. Sure there are tough days, as with any profession, but the opportunities are endless and rewarding!
