Academic learning at home resources have been created to provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful learning experience during the school closure. Below you will find a list of activities that your child can complete both independently and with your support.
Learning Logs are to be completed each day when work is done. These logs will be turned in at the end of the week to your teacher. Your teacher will be in contact with you this week. If you have any questions, please contact your teacher.
Read and write every day! Record the title of the book/text and the pages read each day in your learning log.
Visit the New York Times list of questions/prompts. Choose a question that interests you, read the short article, and answer the questions.
Keep a “quarantine” journal, writing at least 20 mins a day about your experience and reflections of our country’s/district’s response to this pandemic.
Research pandemics and find out how they were handled historically. How have recent pandemics been handled? (such as Sars? Swine Flu? Bird Flu?) Why is this one being handled differently? And how effective is it?
Writing Prompt: Write a one page letter to officials telling them your opinion of the “social distancing” orders they have given in recent weeks. Be sure you give reasons and examples to explain/support your opinion.
Discuss the difference between debit and credit cards, and the advantages and disadvantages of using either payment method with your parents.
Order items in your pantry from least to greatest by weight in oz. (The more decimal places the better.)
Describe the difference between the lateral and total surface area using a canned food item from your pantry.
Practice solving 4 different problems involving lateral and total surface area in mathematical and real world situations.
Practice the multiplication facts up to 12. (ex. 7 x 8 = __, 12 x 6 = __)
Generate equivalent forms of fractions, decimals, and percents. (ex. 14=0.25=25%)

Go on walks in your backyard, neighborhood, or community to observe the natural world around you. Observe living organisms.
Draw a diagram of your surrounding environment. Label all the organisms. Describe how these organisms may compete for biotic factors such as food and abiotic factors such as light, water, and soil. (ex. Earthworms use soil for shelter.)
Describe a scenario in which one abiotic factor is changed or removed from an ecosystem. Explain the possible side effects on that ecosystem.
Draw a comic strip about a historical event that you have learned about this year.
Make a list of five important historical figures that you have learned about this year. Add a summary about something important that each person did. If you need to research them, find multiple reliable sources online to confirm that your research is accurate.
Think of an important historical document that you have learned about this year. Make a poster about the document, explaining why it was important and what it accomplished. Find a one-sentence excerpt from the document and include it on the poster, with an explanation in your own words of what the excerpt means.
Find a political cartoon about a current event. Analyze it and explain the point of view of the cartoon. Then, create your own political cartoon about an event, current or past that you learned about.
Create a cause and effect chart to explain the causes of a historical event such as Sectionalism.
Create a cause and effect chart to explain the effects of a historical event.
Create a timeline of a major event in history’s past. Include events, dates, explanations, and an illustration to represent it.
