Academic learning at home resources have been created to provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful learning experience during the school closure. Below you will find a list of activities that your child can complete both independently and with your support.
Learning Logs are to be completed each day when work is done. These logs will be turned in at the end of the week to your teacher. Your teacher will be in contact with you this week. If you have any questions, please contact your teacher.
Read and write every day! Record the title of the book/text and the pages read each day in your learning log.
Ask a family member in what city and in what year were they born, research what events happened in their birth city during their birth year. Write a summary of your findings and be sure to document the ways your personal experiences in your city and year of birth are similar to the family member you talked with.
Phone a grandparent or family member, write a reflection of your conversation highlighting what you liked most about the chat.
Act as a journalist collecting information from a family member about their workday. Jot down notes, question examples: Where do you work? How long does your commute to work take? What are your hours at work? Do you have friends at work? What did you eat for lunch today? What is your favorite part of your workday? Name five adjectives that describe your workday.
Writing Prompt: Think of someone you respect and admire. Write a friendly letter to them telling them why you respect and admire them. Also, ask them at least three questions you feel they are particularly qualified to answer.
Create a fictional income based on the needs you have and the skills you currently have and could be applied to employment. Use as much factual information as possible to create an income.
Estimate your income by adding up all the money you will receive during the month.
Create a chart or list to record all the things you will spend money on and the amount for each.
Estimate your expenses by adding up the cost of all the things you will buy.
Subtract your total expenses from your total income.
Please consider making wise choices. If your expenses are more than your income, you are spending too much and must reduce your spending or increase your income. If you have money left over, you have a surplus and can consider saving or buying things you need.
Practice ordering sets of rational numbers. (ex. Order 0.3, 25, 0.85, 0.09, 34and 320 from least to greatest.)
Locate the temperatures of the first months of the current year and order them in an ascending form. Create a line graph to show how temperatures have been fluctuating. Create a word problem using the data gathered about temperatures. Solve the word problem.
Practice the multiplication facts up to 12. (ex. 7 x 8 = __, 12 x 6 = __)
Go on walks in your backyard, neighborhood, or community to observe the natural world around you. Observe living organisms and their interactions.
Draw a scene from your walks. Label all the biotic (living and once living, dead) and abiotic (non- and never living - water, soil) things. Also label them as:
organism - tree (pecan)
population - a group of same trees (pecan)
community - a group of all organisms living in the same area
ecosystem - living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic - water, soil)
Observe the interactions between the abiotic and biotic things and explain these interactions.
Use a map, globe, or atlas to discuss how to use a map. Identify specific places, map tools such as a compass, key, legend, or scale, and use directional terms such as north, south, east, and west to identify other places.
Locate various physical features near your house and in your neighborhood.
Make a list of facts that you may already know about the continent of Africa.
Think about two countries or continents that you have learned about and list some of the political, social, economic, and geographic characteristics for each of those countries.
Make a list of your family’s cultural customs and traits. Describe how these customs or traits influence your life.
Think of a place that you would like to visit. Write an explanation of why you want to go there.
