Academic learning at home resources have been created to provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful learning experience during the school closure. Below you will find a list of activities that your child can complete both independently and with your support.
Learning Logs are to be completed each day when work is done. These logs will be turned in at the end of the week to your teacher. Your teacher will be in contact with you this week. If you have any questions, please contact your teacher.
Choose ONE of the following relating to Cellular Differentiation:
Environmental effects can have powerful effects on proper cell differentiation during embryo development. Alcohol is a known toxin that can have negative influences on the embryo. Research mechanisms through which alcohol might affect cell division and differentiation. Write your conclusions to the research and give evidence to back up your hypothesis of the effects of alcohol on cell division on embryos.
OR
Choose a scenario for a particular cell with a function such as: absorption, photosynthesis, structure and support, gas transport, metabolic reactions, aid in reproduction, etc.. Determine what type of organisms and where in the organism such a cell (with the function you chose) would be most useful. Write a conclusion of specialized needs such a cell might have and include how this cell would be different from one of the cells in the organism.
OR
Choose a type of cancer to research: breast, prostate, skin, lung, pancreas, etc. Record basic public health information about the cancer as well as the environmental and biological causes. Compare information from three categories: epidemiology and environmental influences will be quite different, but the biological causes will be very similar. Identify the parts of the cell cycle most susceptible to disruption, the genes responsible for regulation of the cycle. Write a summary for the type of cancer you chose. If time allows, postulate ways of identifying individuals most likely to develop cancer.
Instruction:
Read the article Science Today - Dissolving Reefs - Take notes as you read and answer the questions at the end.
Activities:
Virtual Lab - Go to the PhET simulation Acid - Base Solutions. Complete the lab by following this procedure: Calculating pH. You will be asked to make a copy of the Google document in your drive. Save the document with Calculating pH Lab as the file name. Complete the procedure, recording data and answering the questions on the Google document or notebook paper as you go. When you are finished, submit the completed lab assignment into Canvas or email it to your teacher.
Review:
Complete the Quizizz assignment found here using the join code provided by your teacher.
Research environmental and economic energy issues of 2020.
Choose a real world scenario involving an energy problem. Analyze economic and environmental factors to determine what energy resource would be the most effective to solve the issue.
Create a presentation, and include graphics to persuade others that your idea is the best solution to the problem. Include reasons other resources would not be as effective.

Directions for Instruction:
Read and take notes over relativistic energy and rest energy using the lumen learning site https://courses.lumenlearning.com/physics/chapter/28-6-relativistic-energy/
Research and define the following terms : nuclear stability, fission, fusion, radiation therapy, diagnostic imaging, semiconductors, superconductors, solar cells, and nuclear power
Activities:
Choose enough activities so that you are able to complete 1 hour worth of work from the following list exploring modern physics concepts. Send evidence of your work as a photo or attachment through email.
Create a google slide show for at least 5 of your research terms. Include the definition and diagram or picture of the device/phenomenon
Watch the following video and write a summary and your reaction to the video-boring, interesting, incredulous? Why?
