Academic learning at home resources have been created to provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful learning experience during the school closure. Below you will find a list of activities that your child can complete both independently and with your support.
Learning Logs are to be completed each day when work is done. These logs will be turned in when school resumes. Your teacher will be in contact with you this week. If you have any questions, please contact your teacher.
Read and write every day! Choose a self-selected book to read independently. Record the title of the book/text and the pages read each day in your learning log.
Do not attempt to complete the following activities in one week. Instead, you will need to establish yourself a schedule (May 11 - 15; May 18 - 22; May 25 - 29). Be prepared to share this schedule with your teacher this week. Each week you will need to be prepared to show your teacher progress toward completion of all three required modes, or genres.
What is the greatest lesson learned, so far, from the Covid-19 pandemic?
You will need to present a convincing argument using at least three different modes, or genres.
One of those modes, or genres, must take the form of a multi-paragraph argumentative style essay. Your position must be supported by a combination of evidence from sources and anecdotes. (If you have limited or no access to online research, you may use anecdotes only)
The other two modes, or genres, are your choice. You can write a poem, or a short story, or a memoir-style piece, or blog, or give a TED Talk, or write/perform a song, or compose a musical score, or create a documentary style video, or build something, or paint something, deliver a speech, etc. Whatever mode, or genre, you choose must convey your answer (position) to the question: What is the greatest lesson learned, so far, from the Covid-19 pandemic?
You can approach your answer to this question through any lens you choose: personal, economic, political, educational, healthcare, news media, social media, religion, social, psychological, etc. It might help if you do a free-write answer to the question to get a better sense of your ideas.
