Academic learning at home resources have been created to provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful learning experience during the school closure. Below you will find a list of activities that your child can complete both independently and with your support.
Learning Logs are to be completed each day when work is done. These logs will be turned in when school resumes. Your teacher will be in contact with you this week. If you have any questions, please contact your teacher.
This week you will:
Read and write every day! Choose a self-selected book to read independently. Record the title of the book/text and the pages read each day in your learning log.
Visit Kelly Gallagher’s Article of the Week, choose an article to read each day and write a one-page response to each article. There are Response Questions at the bottom of the article that will guide you in writing your response. (Parents may need to pre-read articles for appropriateness beforehand)
Watch at least one newscast daily, and keep a journal summarizing the information provided via the newscast and your reactions to that news information. Make sure you alternate the news stations you watch. How does information differ according to what news station you are watching? Also, create a venn diagram comparing two different ways that information about the Coronavirus pandemic is presented. What does this tell you about the target audience and what they may value, want to hear? Include your venn diagram and answers to these questions in a google document you will share with your teacher, or simply answer the questions and create your venn diagram on notebook paper.
