LEVEL 3 PHYSICS – L3PHY
Learning Area: Science
Qualification: NCEA Level 3
The physics phenomenon introduced in Level 2 is extended into new areas. In mechanics, further work on linear motion leads to discussion of rotational dynamics and simple harmonic motion. Study of waves introduces quantification of interference and the Doppler Effect. Atomic physics explores the Bohr model of the atom, quantum effects and the application of the conservation laws to nuclear reactions. Experimental science is continued with additional consideration of the error analysis. It complies with University Entrance subject requirements.
Course Components:
Wave systems, Mechanics, Physics Application, and Modern Physics.
External Credits: 10
Internal Credits: 9
Entry Recommendations: At least 12 Level 2 NCEA Physics credits, including 1 External Standard and Level 2 Maths (Algebra and Trigonometry strongly recommended)
