Gagana Samoa is the study of the Samoan language. There is an emphasis on developing writing skills using the models of descriptive writing, Folasaga, notices, directions, dialogue and narrative writing. Emphasis is also on developing oral skills and communication between students. History, traditions and customs are explored within the context of each unit covered. Tu ma aga fa’asāmoa will be explored within each unit of learning.
Course Components:
Themes covered will be focused around the students’ exploratory world including familiar and unfamiliar contexts. These can include but are not limited to:
Upu feiloa’i (Welcoming)
Tu ma aga mai anamua (Myths and legends)
Mitimitaga ma mo’omooga (Aspirations and looking to the future)
Le lalolagi (The world)
Internal Credits: 14 Level 2 Gagana Sāmoa Credits
External Credits: 10 Level 2 Gagana Sāmoa Credits
Entry Recommendations: 10 Credits at Level 1 Gagana Sāmoa is required; however, special consideration will be given to those students who can demonstrate sufficient competency in Gagana Sāmoa.
