Te Reo Māori is the study of the oral traditions of Māori, the reo and tikanga that goes alongside it. In Te Reo Māori the emphasis is on the continuing to develop writing skills, oral skills and communication between students. History, traditions and customs are explored within the context of each unit covered. Tikanga is covered within each unit of learning.
Course Components: Kaupapa/themes covered will be focused around the students’ exploratory world including familiar and unfamiliar contexts. These can include but are not limited to:
Pōwhiri process,
Myths and legends – local and regional,
Dreams and aspirations and
The world around me.
External Credits: 12 Level 2 Te Reo Māori Credits
Internal Credits: 10 Level 2 Te Reo Māori Credits
Literacy: 22 Credits
Entry Recommendations: 12 Credits at Level 1 Te Reo Māori is required; however, special consideration will be given to those students who can demonstrate sufficient competency in Te Reo Māori.
