LEVEL 2 CHEMISTRY – L2CHEM
Learning Area: Science
Qualification: NCEA Level 2
Chemistry is the study of change. Learners will gain an understanding of the composition and properties of the materials that make up our universe. They will study the changes matter undergoes and the energy involved. They will develop an understanding of theories used to explain observations about chemical systems. As well as preparing learners for Level 3 Chemistry, this course supports careers in Nursing, Primary Industries (e.g.Wine Making and Manufacturing), Engineering, Health Science, Veterinary Science, Environmental Science and Sustainability or Food Science pathways.
Course Components:
A.S 2.1 - Carry out a practical investigation into a substance present in a consumer product using quantitative analysis (4 credits)
A.S 2.7 - Demonstrate understanding of oxidation-reduction (3 credits)
A.S 2.4 - Demonstrate understanding of bonding, structure, properties and energy changes (5 credits)
A.S 2.5 - Demonstrate understanding of the properties of selected organic compounds (4 credits)
External Credits: 9
Internal Credits: 7
Entry Recommendations: At least 10 Level 1 Science credits (6 from Chemistry & Biology 1.2)
