LEVEL 2 BIOLOGY – L2BIO
Learning Area: Science
Qualification: NCEA Level 2
Biology helps us understand the big picture of life on Earth. This course builds on Level 1 Science concepts by investigating the interconnectedness of all living things at the cellular, organism and ecosystem levels. Using an understanding of DNA and gene expression, learners will explore the way living things maintain their community through inheritance. This course involves a field trip to Taylor’s Mistake. As well as preparing learners for L3 Biology, this course is particularly useful if you are considering Health Science, Sports Science, Veterinary Science, Environmental Science and Sustainability, Nursing and Aged Care or Food Science pathways.
Course Components:
A.S 2.6 - Investigate a pattern in an ecological community, with supervision (4 credits)
A.S 2.1 - Carry out a practical investigation in a biology context, with supervision (4 credits)
A.S 2.3 - Demonstrate understanding of adaptation of plants or animals to their way of life (3 credits)
A.S 2.5 - Demonstrate understanding of genetic variation and change (4 credits)
A.S 2.7 - Demonstrate understanding of gene expression (4 credits)
External Credits: 8
Internal Credits: 11
UE Literacy: Y (4 credits writing)
Entry Recommendations: At least 10 Level 1 Science credits (5 from Chemistry & Biology 1.3)
