Gagana Sāmoa is the study of the Sāmoan language. There is an emphasis on developing writing skills using the models of descriptive writing, Folasaga, dialogue and narrative writing. Oral skills and communication between students is also a focus at Level 1. History, traditions and customs are explored within the context of each unit covered. Tu ma aga fa’asāmoa will be explored within each unit of learning.

Interacting in spoken Gagana Sāmoa to share and respond to information, ideas, and opinions (In)
Communicate in Gagana Sāmoa in relation to a cultural context (In)
Demonstrate understanding of written Gagana Sāmoa related to everyday contexts (Ex)
Demonstrate understanding of spoken Gagana Sāmoa related to everyday contexts (Ex)
Internal Credits: 10 Level 1 Gagana Sāmoa Credits
External Credits: 10 Level 1 Gagana Sāmoa Credits
Entry Recommendations: Year 10 Gagana Sāmoa is required; however, special consideration will be given to those students who can demonstrate sufficient competency in Gagana Sāmoa and Sāmoa culture.
