LEVEL 1 MUSIC – L1MUS

The Level 1 Music course aims to provide students with a range of skills that will allow them to succeed in any form of music making. The flexibility of this programme will allow students to both compose, and perform music in any style/genre; meeting individual student needs. Students will perform at our three music nights over the year (Autumn Vibes, Airwave, and Blue Noise) and be given the opportunity to participate in a range of competitions, including JazzQuest, Smokefree RockQuest, PlayItStrange, NZCT Chamber Music Festival, and more.
Level 1 Music adequately prepares students for either a future career in music; or to continue successfully making music in years to come.
Note: Performance in front of a live audience is a mandatory component of this course.
Course Components:
The Level 1 Music course consists of 4 assessments:
26687 Demonstrate and apply knowledge of sound for an entertainment and event context (Internal, 4 credits)
1.1 Use music skills in a music style (Internal, 5 credits)
1.2 Demonstrate Performance Skills (Internal, 5 credits)
1.4 Shape music ideas to create an original composition (External, 5 credits)

Internal Credits: 5
Entry Recommendations: It is expected that students have been learning an instrument to taking singing lessons for at least one year before entering this course. There are exceptions to this, and any inquiries should be directed to the Teacher in Charge of Music, Mr Love.
