Te Reo Māori is the study of the oral traditions of Māori, the reo and tikanga that goes alongside it. At Level 1 the writing skills are developed using the models of descriptive writing, mihi, dialogue and narrative writing. Emphasis is also given to developing oral skills and communication between students. History, traditions and customs are explored within the context of each unit covered. Tikanga is covered within each unit of learning.

Vitality of the language pre 1970
Communicate ideas in te reo Māori orally
Grammar of te reo Māori
Communicate ideas in te reo Māori in written form
External Credits: 10 Level 1 Te Reo Māori Credits
Internal Credits: 10 Level 1 Te Reo Māori Credit
Entry Recommendations: Year 10 Te Reo Māori is required; however, special consideration will be given to those students who can demonstrate sufficient competency in Te Reo Māori
