This course uses the Key area of the Health Curriculum to build knowledge around food and nutrition. (Assessments will also be open for students to demonstrate their knowledge of the other key areas; Mental Health, and Relationships and Sexuality. There is a strong emphasis on looking at the hauora (wellbeing) of individuals, groups, and communities in connection to food and nutrition.
This course has some practical components that are not assessed but allow students to analyse how our experiences with food can shape and influence our wellbeing. We plan to look at cultural perspectives on food, nutrition and food safety as well as how to make positive choices around food.
Many of the assessments require students to complete written reports or create presentations to demonstrate their understanding. Students should feel comfortable and confident in these skills as well as preparing food while following a recipe.
Course Components:
AS92008 Demonstrate understanding of hauora in a health-related context through the application of a model of health (internally assessed)
AS92009 Demonstrate understanding of decision-making in a health-related situation (internally assessed)
AS92010 Demonstrate understanding of personal, interpersonal and societal factors that influence hauora (externally assessed)
AS92011 Demonstrate understanding of strategies that enhance hauora (externally assessed)

Entry Recommendations: Skills in following a recipe and preparing food, an interest in preparing food and growing an understanding of wellbeing and our relationship with food. Confidence in reading and writing as well as using google suite tools in order to complete learning and assessments.
