This full year course for students wanting to explore the performing arts through stage work. The first half of the year will be focussed on major production and drama techniques. The second half of the year will be focussed on devising (creating theatre) and analysing live theatre. Learners will have the opportunity to study: production area, special effects make-up, major production, techniques, prop making and stage managing.

Learners will also be taught an overview of the history and performance techniques used in drama, this will assist them in the two externals. It follows on from what they have learnt within the junior programme. Students will also have the opportunity to view live theatre. Learners will also be expected to be involved in a class production and many opportunities to perform to an audience as part of this course.

Term 1 and 2

Drama 1.1 (91940), 5 credits, Internal.

Explore the function of theatre Aotearoa.

Drama 1.3 (91942), 5 credits, External.

Use drama techniques to perform a scripted role for an audience.

Unit standards: Performance technologies such as stage management, stage make-up, sound and technical skills will work alongside any productions we do.

Term 3 and 4

Drama 1.2 (91941), 5 credits, Internal.

Participate in creative strategies to create a drama.

Drama 1.4 (91943), 5 credits, External.

Respond to a drama performance.

Performance technologies such as stage management, stage make-up, sound and technical skills will work alongside any productions we do.

Entry Recommendations: It is preferred that students have completed Junior Drama to enter this course.
