LEVEL 1 DANCE -  L1DAN

Qualification: NCEA Level 1


This full year course is for those who wish to express themselves through Dance and movement in a safe and supportive environment. Students will recap the elements of dance and use choreographic devices to create their own movement, presenting their ideas in group and solo pieces. Work is predominantly practical with opportunities to explore, compare and contrast a range of social and cultural dance styles and to analyse live and recorded dance performances.

Students are expected to wear appropriate clothing and bare feet/dance shoes to allow full range of movement in dance class.


Course Components:

Research and analysis, individual and group choreography, performance.

Term 3: Assessment Showcase, Live performances


1.1 Compose a dance sequence in response to a given brief AS91936 - 5 Credits Internal

1.2 Perform Dance sequences AS91937 - 5 Credits Internal

1.3 Demonstrate understanding of the relationship between key features and cultural context of a dance genre or style - 5 Credits External

1.4 Demonstrate understanding of the application of the elements of dance in a performance - 5 credits External
