There have been some mixed feelings about the replacement of Frank J. Wood bridge, but for the most part Brunswick and Topsham residents are excited about the transformation of the bridge to come. This big green bridge connects the town of Topsham and the town of Brunswick, Maine. The bridge has served as a vital transportation route for decades now. However, time has taken its toll on the green bridge, since Frank J. Wood bridge has been up since 1932. It has become clear that a replacement would be the most beneficial, and necessary to provide and ensure safety to the community.
The replacement of the Frank J. Wood bridge is the most beneficial thing to do. The new bridge is going to be built in an upstream alignment and the bridge is going to be designed to last the next 100 years. The new bridge will have side walks on each side of it, wider shoulders on both sides, special railings, lighting, and there will be parks at both ends of the bridge.
As the new bridge comes along there will be some restrictions, but we won't see these restrictions until 2025. If all goes as planned, the bridge is scheduled to be finished in late 2026, but they expect to open the bridge before that. All together, this bridge is going to cost close to 49.9 million dollars, between the equipment and the construction.
