Orphaned squirrels may suck on each other's body parts in the absence of a mother's nipples. This can become a huge problem if a squirrel is sucking on a cagemate's penis aka squirrel genital sucking.

If you see abnormal swelling like this, separate the squirrel who is doing the sucking right away and contact a squirrel mentor or staff person right away for further treatment. This can lead to a life-threatening situation for the squirrel.

In addition to swelling, you might see a scratch on the penis from teeth.
