環境教育を受けるリンデンホールスクール小学部の生徒達が生み出すアートは、どれも素晴らしいものでした。中でも、サステナブルなライフスタイルの推進を訴えかけるパワーを持った作品を採用し、ハンカチとして商品化しました。

The design submissions from the elementary school students, who had been receiving an environmental sciences education, were all wonderful. Within the many possible choices, the design that spoke particularly powerfully about the importance of an environmentally sustainable lifestyle was printed on the handkerchief you hold in your hands. 

また、今回採用したハンカチの素材はインドのオーガニックコットン農家から綿花を調達し、日本で生産したアイテムです。児童労働や農薬被害から現地の人々を守り、子ども達に教育の機会を与えるオーガニックコットンを選択することができたのは、中高学部の生徒の学びの成果です。

This handkerchief is made out of organic cotton grown in India and processed in Japan. The SDGs Project students at Linden Hall High School specifically selected this textile with the aims of protecting cotton growers from harmful chemical pesticides and fertilizers as well as avoiding companies that utilize child labor.

国内生産且つ輸送する範囲を限定することは、物流による環境負荷を減らすことに繋がります。世界の生産技術は向上していますが、環境負荷を考えての『日本産』がより多く支持されることを願っています。

By having the cotton processed in Japan and not another country, the SDGs Project students were able to limit the environmental impact of transporting materials. While production technologies around the world have advanced greatly, from an environmental sustainability standpoint, we hope to further promote the concept of "Made in Japan".

服育プロジェクトに参加したことで、衣服が環境に与える悪影響を深く学ぶことができたと同時に、日常的に使うものが目に見えない場所で環境問題に加坦していることに気が付くことができました。この気付きから一人ひとりが少しでも意識して服を扱うことで環境問題は改善できるのではないかと思いました。本プロジェクトのメンバー以外の生徒の皆さんにも発表などを通し、衣服ロスの深刻さを伝えられたのではないかと思います。これからも服育プロジェクトを継続し、社会に貢献できるよう精一杯頑張ります。 

Through our involvement in the SDGs Project, we had the opportunities to not only think more deeply about the environmental impact of the apparel industry, but also open our eyes to the reality that the things that we use in our daily lives may actually be damaging the environment. We felt that if every person could be more aware about the impact of their clothing choices, we would be able to, together, heal the environment. Through our various presentations to other students, we were able to share about the greatly negative impact of "clothing loss". We are committed to continuing the SDGs Project and thereby contributing to society in a meaningful way.

今回のプロジェクトに参加してくれた皆さんは、「和魂英才」をテーマにした素晴らしい教育環境の下、自らの頭で考え、他者を思いやり、協力できるコミュニケーションスキルを既にお持ちでした。これはSDGsを推進するために必要な素養です。リンデンホールスクールの生徒さん達は、地球を守ってくれる救世主になると確信しております。

The students who joined this project, educated in an ideal educational environment designed with the philosophy of "Japanese Soul English Knowledge", came already armed with critical thinking, empathy and communication skills. These elements are essential to achieving the SDGs, and we firmly believe that Linden Hall School students have what it takes to save the Earth.

このハンカチが、サステイナブルな社会の実現を考えるきっかけの一助となり、これからの皆さんの活動を後押しするものになれば嬉しいです。楽しく実りある時間をありがとうございます！

We hope that this handkerchief serves as an inspiration for everybody to act towards building a more sustainable society, as evidence that one's actions can, indeed, have a great impact on the world. Thank you for a most fruitful experience at Linden Hall School!
