Young Lincoln Leaders (YLL) is a local version of the national high school leadership program, Chick-Fila-A Leader Academy. It focuses on impact through action while providing students with the opportunity to learn more about their local community. Students meet monthly during the school day to learn leadership skills, participate in field trips, and complete a end of year project impacting their local community.
Students apply through the online application above. Once the application window is closed, names are removed and answers are scored using a rubric. Content as well as grammar/spelling/conventions are considered.
Students are expected to attend ALL Young Lincoln Leader meetings and field trips. A schedule of meeting dates can be found here.
YLL days are excused absences for 2nd and 3rd period.
Students are responsible for making up any missed work.
Students are expected to actively participate in group discussions and projects.
Students are expected to communicate with YLL facilitators.
Students are expected to communicate absences with classroom teachers.
The impact project is the culminating event in which YLL will use their leadership skills to plan and carry out a large community service. While LCS staff will provide the impact project topic, students will be in charge of logistics, volunteer recruitment, fundraising, and marketing, as applicable.
In December, students will participate in a smaller service project, Do Good December, to begin practicing these leadership skills.
Young Lincoln Leaders will be hosted at the Lincoln County School of Technology. Students may drive themselves to and from meetings or are welcome to ride the LCST bus from their homeschool. Students who drive are expected to be back at their homeschool at the same time the LCST bus arrives.
Lunch is provided for students by Chick-Fil-A and other community donors.
