The first time we attempted to make lamps was in 2019. We were soooo close to being done and then, we went into lockdown because of COVID. We were finally able to make lamps from beginning to end three years later! They look amazing!
We decided to get messy again and create something with cement. We thought about making planters again but instead, we went ahead and made some plant plates! This time around we used a different formula and cement to make our cement plates. They worked out really well!
Our went above and beyond with their crafty skills this time around! They created their own HMS falcon logos which they etched to different glasses to create their own school pride glass.
Boy, did our young makers have fun during this particular session! The makers worked on measurement skills to mix the right amount of ingredients that ended up in delicious gummies. Some decided to be quite creative and mixed different flavors and others went as far as creating gummy "suckers".
This time our young makers over did it! They showed tremendous design and measurement skills when designing their earrings! These young makers were exposed to Tinkercad for the first time during our Makerspace session and yet, they were able to come up with the amazing designs below.
Our makers started the new year full of energy. They learned how to make safe slime/PlayDoy that they can use with younger siblings to sculpt artistic designs, or just to fidget with. For this challenge they had to use their measuring skills. Those who measured their ingredients correctly, ended up with really fun and nice looking slime. Most of them ended up eating it!
Our young makers made beautiful monogrammed mugs, perfect for a holiday gift or to enjoy a hot cup of cocoa. With the help of our ELL teacher, Ms. Daoust, the students chose a font to cut out on vinyl. They chose a vinyl letter to create these colorful mugs,
We used elements from nature to create our own ornaments. Our makers researched ideas and came up with some original designs. Some students made a few early holiday gifts for family members!!
Our young makers created planters out of cement. The students learned how to make cement and made their own make their planters. Unfortunately, we learned the hard way that the consistency of the mix matters and some of the planters ended up breaking when they dried out.
During our last two sessions, the students decorated pumpkins and they made tie dye shirts. For the pumpkin decorations, the students used their original ideas to decorate their pumpkins using paint, goggly eyes, pipe cleaners, fabric, ribbon, burlap, and yarn. The students enjoyed sharing ideas and applying their creativity skills. During the tie dye shirt session, the students decided to go with different fun designs.
Our Makerspace is off to a great start. Our young makers learned how to make bath bombs. The students had a blast experimenting with colors and scents. The students learned about the properties of the ingredients used in their bombs and how these work. They also shared their mixes to make multicolored and multi-scented bath bombs.
