Kingston Secondary SChool

KSS brings together students from the former KCVI and QECVI, and relocates Grade 7 and 8 intermediate French Immersion/Extended French students from Module Vanier. KSS offers a variety of programming including English programs in university, college and workplace pathways, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, and intermediate and secondary extended French and French Immersion.

Offering four Red seal diplomas in Arts and Culture, Construction, Food Processing and Information and Communication Technology. Unique in-house opportunities paired with strong sector-specific community partnerships ensure a valuable experience for every SHSM participant.

Arts and culture

Students in our Arts & Culture SHSM have multiple options for earning their Red Seal. A combination of courses in Visual Arts, Music, Technical Design, and Drama allow for a variety of experiences.

Some unique opportunities include musical theatre productions, improv club, drama club, creative writing, visual arts club, anime, yearbook and school newspaper, choir, jazz band, concert band, and strings.

Construction

Students participating in our Construction SHSM will be exposed to a variety of opportunities within the skilled trades sector. Not limited to innovative opportunities like our mobile greenhouse, students interested in other sectors such as welding and manufacturing can also use this program as a starting point.

The opportunity to acquire the certifications and skills to enter the workforce are provided both in class, and with our strong community partners.

Whether you are interested in hands-on opportunities, dual credit reach-aheads, acquiring an apprenticeship, or a cooperative education placement in a trade, this program is the perfect starting point.

The Red Seal SHSM programming offered by Mr. Alexander and the Food Processing program is second to none. Innovative ideas, relevant experience, and outreach opportunities help build a strong foundation for anyone looking to pursue a career or studies in the culinary world. Butchery to fine cuisine, safe handling procedures to large scale catering - The Food Processing SHSM offers it all. Information and Communication Technology

The Information and Communication Technology SHSM is just beginning to take off. Interest in robotics? Coding? Electrical Engineering? Computer building or repair? We have something for you all. Through our dynamic classroom setting students can explore a multitude of pathways that fit their interests. Participation in the FIRST Robotics competition and our Robotics Club, students are able to not only hone their technical skills, but also complete cooperative education opportunities and certifications all while doing something they are truly engaged by.

91.9 The Cave - Radio Broadcasting

Eat / Sleep/ Music/ Repeat. Want to interview bands, work in journalism, produce live on-air shows and generally ROCK OUT for a living? You sound like our type. 91.9 - The Cave, Canada's First ever radio station entirely run, and rocked, by high school students. Going live, on-Air, interviewing the hottest bands coming through town, working in news journalism, and learning to produce music. Students in the program learn about media and broadcast journalism while working at Kingston's coolest station, 91.9 "The Cave".
