Super Ouagadougou Market is a bustling supermarket located in the heart of Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso. As one of the largest supermarkets in the city, Super Ouagadougou Market offers a wide variety of products and services, making it a one-stop-shop for all your grocery needs.
The fruit department of the supermarket is the pride of Ouagadougou and is one of the best in all of West Africa. Fruits are highly demanded by the locals as they are the main source of vitamins here in Burkina Faso and are often eaten at the end of meals. All the fruits sold at the supermarket are locally sourced within Km 0 radius. They are carefully selected by our experts, who only purchase from farmers in Ouagadougou, ensuring that the fruits are always fresh, in-season, and pesticide-free.
The most popular fruits among the locals are strawberries, papayas, mangoes, and bananas.
We have also decided to experiment with a new type of packaging, especially for bananas. The bananas will be packaged in a set of 5, but with different stages of ripeness, allowing you to eat one banana a day for 5 days without worrying about them going bad. As we are very sensitive to food waste, this system will allow families to have a ripe banana to eat every day, while also minimizing food waste in the city.
The Delights by Ouagadougou is a restaurant in Burkina Faso that offers traditional local cuisine with fresh and high-quality ingredients. The menu includes dishes like fufu, tagine, and couscous, as well as vegetarian and gluten-free options. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere with traditional décor and African music playing in the background. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, offering advice on dishes and pairing them with local wines. Delights by Ouagadougou is an excellent choice for experiencing the local cuisine and culture of Burkina Faso.
The gombo is above and to the left of the TO.
Burkina Faso is a poor country, and therefore, polenta is a very popular dish among the locals. The most popular type of polenta is called TO, a tasteless white maize polenta that is usually accompanied by several sauces and spices. The locals often buy gombo, a typical African vegetable, which is a kind of tasty pepper that can give an extra boost to this dish.
Wealthier people usually accompany this polenta with meat or fish, such as Gros Capitaine or carp, just like in its twinned city of Turin.
Unfortunately, the people of Ouagadougou are very poor and they do not buy meat or fish very often because they prefer fruits, flour, vegetables, and legumes, which contain all the proteins found in meat and fish. They only buy meat and fish during holidays or special occasions, so as a supermarket, we buy very little meat and fish and stock up on fruits, vegetables, and legumes much more often than meat. The only meats we sell are pork and chicken, while we are forced to buy fish from Togo since we do not share a border with the sea. Additionally, we are twinned with Togo because they provide us with fish while we offer them our fruits and vegetables, which are coveted throughout Africa. We only buy Gros Capitaine and carp, which are preferred by locals over other fish because they are more flavorful.
The Desserts
As previously mentioned, the people of Ouagadougou mainly eat fruit for dessert, but to make the end of the meal sweeter and more flavorful, we have decided to open a yogurt shop: "Faso Faso Yogurt". The word "Faso" means "land" in Moore, a common language in Burkina Faso, and symbolizes our connection to the territory.
Faso Faso Yogurt is a creamy and gourmet yogurt produced in the heart of Burkina Faso. Made with premium ingredients such as fresh milk from locally raised cows and organic crops of fruits and cereals, Faso Faso yogurt represents the perfect balance of goodness and authenticity. Its unique and authentic flavor comes from the artisanal processing passed down from generation to generation by local producers.
Faso Faso yogurt is a sustainable and zero-impact product as no chemical additives or preservatives are used. Its creamy consistency makes it perfect to enjoy on its own or with fresh fruit or muesli for a nutritious and delicious snack. Moreover, Faso Faso yogurt is a product that supports local communities, as buying it helps support OUR breeders and farmers.
