Where in the world?
Where in the world?
This half term we will be learning about stories and winter celebrations from around the world and we will explore how people live in different countries. At this time of year, the children will naturally be interested in the celebrations that come up in the calendar, such as, Guy Fawkes Night, Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas. We will find out where in the world these events started, what they mean and how people celebrate them. We will bring all our learning together to present to you on 10th December.
To create a winter celebration of many cultures
Step 1: I can explore stories from around the world
Step 2: I can learn about different winter celebrations
Step 3: I can share my learning with an audience

15th November 2024
Last week we began by talking about the journey people had taken from the Caribbean to England as part of Black History Month learning.
The children were keen to talk about fireworks night so we learnt about the gunpowder plot and also Diwali. The Robins were very interested in the story of Rama and Sita. We made diva lamps.
Can you remember why light is important in the story? Perhaps you could listen to the story again together.
The Robins have started to think about the way people live in different countries and how their houses may differ from ours. We have started to take a journey around the world through homes.
What homes have we made together so far and why do they differ from ours?
We have been working on our project display by making a world map. We have included times around the world, using countries where some of our Robins originate from.
Can you find out why times are different around the world?
Jovan's Grandma came and told us a story from India.
Can you remember which animals we heard about in the story?
The Robins have been busily getting items ready to sell at exhibition next week. We will be selling all the items we have made related to celebrations around the world, so please bring some change! We will donate the money to Oxfam.
We have continued to enjoy hearing stories from around the world.
Austen's mum told us a story from China about the animals in the chinese calendar.
Can you remember which animals were in the story?
Liza's mum told a story from Greece. Which foods did she bring in for us to try?
Indus' dad told us a story from Pakistan.
Can you remember how to say thank you in Urdu?
What a wonderful time we've had exploring 'Where in the world!' Thank you so much family and friends for watching our performance and visiting our exhibition. We made a whopping £179.36 for Oxfam! Thank you for your contributions.
