Medication:

Can you give my child Tylenol?

~Parents/Guardian must supply the school with Tylenol in the original container and fill out the medication request form in the nurse's office.

Can I bring my child's cough medicine to school for the nurse to give?

~Parents/Guardian must supply the school with the cough medicine in the original container and fill out a medication request form in the nurse's office.

Do you supply cough drops?

~No, the school does not supply cough drops due to them being a choking hazard. Parents/Guardians may send cough drops in their original package and labeled with the child's name with a note authorizing the use.

What do I need to do if my child has an inhaler?

~Parents/Guardians must supply the school with the inhaler and other attachments (spacers) in the original container. A medication form must be filled out along with an Asthma Action Plan by the child's physician.

My child needs medicine three times a day?

~Policy is to give the medicine in the morning before school, after school and before bedtime.

Illness:

When can my child return to school after vomiting or diarrhea?

~Your child may return to school after vomiting or diarrhea has stopped for a full 24 hours.

My child was sent home with fever at 10:00 am, when can he/she return?

~Your child may return after he/she has been less than 100.0 without fever reducing medication for a full 24 hours.

What is considered a fever?

~ A temperature of 100 degrees F or above orally, is considered fever.

Should I notify the school if my child will be absent?

~ Yes, please call if your child is sick. This allows us to document the type of illnesses that are spreading.

How many days will my child be excused for lice?

~ Your child is allowed one excused day to shampoo and remove nits.

Immunization:

Will you notify me if my child needs updated shots during the school year?

~Yes, I do monitor the records and will notify you if your child is due for immunizations. However, once detected you will only be given one to two weeks to become compliant. Ultimately, we depend on the parents to monitor and keep track of their child's immunization status.

Can my child start school if missing a vaccine?

~Your child must be up to date on vaccines or an original Affidavit for Reasons of Conscience to be enrolled unless transferring from another Texas school.
