SEL Lessons 2021-2022

Our elementary counselors teach classroom SEL lessons every month as part of the strategic plan. This next set of lessons focus on Learner’s Mindset which is part of the Student Success Profile. You may be familiar with the terms “fixed and growth mindset”.

The skill we will be sharing with K-1 classes is that learning is fun and that it’s okay to make mistakes when we’re learning. We’ll be reading the book Beautiful Oops.  For the older grades 2-5, we will be sharing how we can unlock our brains by learning from our mistakes and then moving on. We also want to encourage that challenges are opportunities for us to grow. Two books that we have chosen are The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes and Making a Splash.

Try It Out...

Have you ever tried to juggle? Would you like to learn how to do it? Juggling is a fun way to practice learning something new, making mistakes and not giving up. It takes time, practice and strategies to become a skilled juggler. Here is a link to a video if you want to give juggling a try.

Welcome back!! Our first SEL lesson of the 2021-2022 school year is all about feeling valued and connected at school. Here are a few books you can read if you want to learn more.
