6th graders | semester (half-year) course
This course is an introductory, exploratory class designed to spark student interest in languages and cultures from around the world, with a primary focus on Spanish-speaking countries. As part of our middle school language pathway, this course helps prepare students for future Spanish study in 7th and 8th grade.
Students will “travel” through different regions of the Spanish-speaking world and learn about:
- Countries and geography
- Cultural traditions and celebrations
- Food, music, and daily life
- Important historical and cultural influences

7th graders | semester (half-year) course
This course builds on the foundation introduced in 6th grade and begins preparing students for Spanish I. Students will develop basic communication skills in Spanish while continuing to explore culture and traditions from Spanish-speaking countries.
Students will learn:
- Greetings and introductions
- Numbers, age, and basic personal information
- Classroom vocabulary and common expressions
- Likes, interests, and simple conversations
- Basic sentence formation

8th graders | full year course
Spanish I is a high school-level course that introduces students to the Spanish language and builds foundational skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will learn to communicate using simple sentences and begin to understand and use basic grammar structures.
Students will learn:
- Greetings and conversations
- Describing themselves and others
- Talking about daily activities and preferences
- Basic verb conjugation in the present tense
- Reading and writing simple passages
Cultural exploration is integrated throughout the course, allowing students to learn about traditions, perspectives, and daily life in Spanish-speaking countries.
This course prepares students for continued study in Spanish and counts toward high school credit. A grade of 70 or higher is recommended to be successful in Spanish II.
