Welcome!! While this is my 28th year teaching, this is my 7th year at Chapin Middle School. Although I am certified in Secondary English, endorsed in Gifted and Talented, my passion is teaching Foundations of Leadership. I love working with students, discussing how they can self analyze their current habits, decide on areas of growth, and focus on behaviors to increase their leadership skills, and finally determine what matters most to them.
I began my journey as a professional educator upon completing my undergraduate degree (1992) and my graduate degree (1994) from the University of South Carolina. My service as a teacher began in School District Five of Lexington Richland Counties as a Language Arts teacher in 1994 at Irmo Middle School. In 2000 I left the classroom for a year to be at home with my son Yates. In 2001, I returned back to Irmo Middle School until 2011. During those years, I taught 8th grade English Language Arts, served as the school's Literacy Coach, and participated in the SC State Department of Education Middle Level Reading Initiative. After leaving the district to teach 5 years at SCVCS (South Carolina Virtual Charter School), I returned to the district in 2017.
When not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband Brad, our son Yates, and extended family and friends. We love traveling in our RV. In my downtime, I enjoy scrapbooking, reading, and baking.
