Hi there! Thanks for visiting my webpage. I am thrilled to begin my 8th year teaching 4th grade at Chapin Elementary! I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina in 2018 and graduated in May 2024 with my Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from USC. Go Gamecocks!
I enjoy traveling, swimming, camping, skiing, and hiking. I am married to Kristoff, who is a middle school science teacher and we had our first son, Elias, in April 2023. We took Elias at 10 weeks old to the west coast to hike in Yosemite National Park and Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks. In summer 2024 we spent 3 weeks in England visiting friends and during summer 2025 we spent a week snorkeling/exploring in Bermuda. We love to travel together and learn more about the world we live in! We are trying to visit every SC State Park and our favorite beach for day trips is Folly Beach. We have two cats (Diamond & Jocelyn), plus a vegetable garden that provides us with plenty of yellow squash, cucumbers, and tomatoes during the summer months. We are excited to welcome our second child in December 2025 and grow our family. Mrs. Beth Hughes (a certified teacher who has worked at CES for a long time!) will be my long-term sub, so your children will be in wonderful hands with her while I am out on maternity leave.
I have enjoyed being a coaching teacher for the University of South Carolina and was a part of the SC Teaching Fellows Program during my undergrad years at USC. I love to learn new things and I look forward to getting to know students as readers, writers, and historians this year.
In the 2025-2026 school year I am teaming up with Mr. Brazell again (we love to work together!) and we will follow an A/B day schedule to allow your child to have their favorite subject at the beginning of the day (every other day). Click here to view our daily schedule, plus it will also be linked in our classroom newsletter that we will send out every Monday typically. I am SO excited for this school year and look forward to growing together! Please never hesitate to contact me. My email address is mtolbert@lexrich5.org
