               Welcome to our Spanish class!

Hola! My name is Señora Evelyn Archilla, and I am so excited to have your child in my class! My family and I have lived in Columbia, SC for the past 30 years. Originally, I am from the beautiful Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico. I am a certified Spanish teacher with 33 years of experience, 15 here at CES. I have taught all levels of Spanish, (PK through High school) throughout my career.  I am also a qualified interpreter/short document translator for DHEC and DSS. These skills have allowed me to work in various companies and school settings, providing interpreting and/or translating services to help when needed.

 I wish to create a classroom atmosphere where students are able to participate in all areas and help each other in the learning process. In learning this new language, it is my hope that students develop a positive attitude towards other cultures and, in doing so, a deeper understanding of their own. 

Visuals, props, games, skits, songs, dances, TPR (Total Physical Response) and more will enhance your child's experience as they are immersed in the Spanish language in our classroom. We don't have to be perfect, we just need to try! Brain research shows the optimal age to learn a foreign language is at the elementary level.
